The sport should do everything it can to keep these guys safe, but at the end of the day your job is to knockout or submit another person. It's impossible to participate in MMA or football and not leave with a lingering injury IMO.
Agree they know the risk in a big picture sort of way, but it doesn't really set in. They all think they are the guy who won't get brain damage. I think they OK with having knee, back, hand issues, etc. None of them really think they are going to be shaking in a wheel chair at 55. That stuff happens to other guys in their minds. Joe was hammering that home to Brendan.

I kinda agree with this. I think ON AVERAGE... women fights can be more entertaining then men's, because typically you have two women just duking it out whereas with the men you have guys trying to get all technical and wrestle each other.

I guess what I'm trying to really say is... I find both to be very entertaining.

I honestly don't think MMA fighters are at as much of a risk for brain trauma and damage that football players or boxers. MMA fighters don't get hit in the head as much, hell there are many fights where guys can lose and take hardly any damage at all just by being controlled. In football you constantly get hit and you bell rung and when you get a concussion they hold you out sometimes not even til the next week, putting you right back into the game. They can't afford to keep their star players out. In MMA you can take 6 months off with no contact and come back after getting a concussion. In boxing, you take a lot more damage to the head imo. You can literally get knocked out, get up before the 10 count and continue to take more abuse and even get ko'd again.

I pretty much agree, but with Schaub being a lifelong football, boxer, and then MMA guy his risk is off the charts.

The damage these guys take in fights is the most extreme, but it's the little shots you take in training that add up over time. If you told me I can get KO'd three times, but never train or take any other shots to the head, I would do that over being a 10 year MMA guy who never gets KO'd in a fight, but is training/sparring regularly. In the end, it's not an exact science, and one shot can be really bad, and 10,000 can do little.

Sparring is an issue, but a lot of guys only spar twice a week now. Robbie Lawler said that he didn't spar for 6 years, not sure that I believe him.

I believe Lawler I think he kinda coasted and collected a check while in Strikeforce. Getting back into the UFC lit a fire under his ass and I'm guessing a lot of his training changed.

I'd like to see Lawler keep the the belt and for Woodley or Lombard to get a shot. I think those would be explosive fights.

Lmbard would be a great/fun fight. In don't think Woodley can compete against the very top of the division with much success. Top 5-10 hes fines but the top 2-3 just dominate him.

Usually the Diaz brothers are morons but he was right there. He still murdered the English language but his thoughts on CM Punk are correct.

Did you see the Condit fight? He would've won that whether Condit was hurt or not. He definitely can beat anyone in that division, i think his problem is all mental.

I sort of agree, but maybe not. If that fight goes a few rounds I think Condit's cardio becomes a real advantage. He certainly dominated before Carlos hurt his knee though. Condit is a good matchup for him too because he has bad TDD. I don't see him having the same success vs. Rory, Hendricks, Lawler, or Lombard.

Looks like Nate is trying to get fired, misses weight by 4 pounds.

Couple good fights so far and one NC due to eye pokes which are becoming a huge issue.

I too loved 2 watching Nate lose. I get so annoyed watching him taunt and taltalking crap when he's clearly getting beat.

Miocic impressed me tonight. I feel Junior that won but not unanimously.

Diaz looked pudgy and out of shape and just read he was dealing with training injuries. I'm not sure that would've made a difference though.

After all his punk antics and missing weight, I was glad to see Diaz get pummeled for 3 rounds.

At least he didn't tap. Those leg kicks are his downfall.

Lol, that's so dumb. The object of the fight isn't always to make someone tap or get knocked out. He got pounded for 3 rounds and was still acting like a moron at the end of the fight.

Oh, I heard your boy Nick already has a built in excuse for when Spider beats his ass next month. What a joke.

Was also glad to see Diaz dominated! Their act is so old. It doesn't seem to affect their opponents anymore either. They need a new act or how about dedicate yourself to the sport as I won't argue against them having tremendous fighting skills.

Nate didn't look great last night, didn't show up and compete as well as he normally could have. Love how everyone says they are tired of their act, it's not an act it's how they are. You guys just want these cookie cutter wrestler boxers who are unoriginal and won't speak up when they are mistreated and underpaid. I have said for a long time there guys need a fighter's union and I think it will eventually happen. Supposedly there is a huge lawsuit coming against the UFC that will completely change things. As for Nate he needs to get back to competing every 4 months or so, the time off didn't help but he is still one of the better guys in that division, props to RDA who was motivated and did a great job. Great KO'ds by Reem and Mitrione, wouldn't mind seeing them fight next. Heard Mitrione has some beef with Reem from their time at the Blackzilians together. JDS vs Stipe was a war, Stipe's chin is much better than I thought because he took some bombs.
