The new deal means that beginning with fight week for next summer’s UFC 189 event in Las Vegas, existing sponsors will no longer appear on fighter clothing – not only on fight night, but also at all pre-fight media appearances – and in-cage sponsor banners also will be eliminated. Fighter camps also will be outfitted with approved clothing to create a uniform look in athletes’ corners.
That said, existing sponsors are still welcome to support UFC fighters, UFC officials said. However, the companies will be tasked with finding a new activation process since third-party logos will no longer be allowed on UFC broadcasts, other than title-sponsor slots – similar to those seen with European soccer clubs – that the UFC may eventually sell to “a major, global brand” down the road.
“This is no different than any other major sport,” Fertitta said. “You can’t just run on to the field or on to the basketball court with whatever sponsors you want. It just doesn’t work that way. We’re now at that level.

I like the new Reebok deal. I do believe the UFC will work with fighters with their sponsors though too.
Maybe we'll see added exposure of sponsors on their banners, entrance, etc. But, no way will UFC take their products (fighters) out of the business.

I read that in the Reebok deal most of the money will go directly to the fighters. Not bad if you ask me, could make simpler for the lower tier fighters to get "sponsor" money as you know their managers have to scrounge everywhere to fill their shorts with ads. Guys like Anderson Silva, GSP, etc (the stars) this may hurt their pockets a little, all depending on how they divide up the money.OSH;1681223 wrote:I like the new Reebok deal. Admittedly I haven't read up on the new deal at all. I only worry about fighters losing their individuality, which is a huge part of combat sports. As long as they can wear what they want to the cage (like King Mo in crown, etc) it shouldn't be a huge deal.

This is only a UFC deal, so it won't affect Bellator fighters like King Mo. They won't be able to wear any other sponsors on fight week and in the cage when they fight, no more sponsor banners from what I understand.Zoltan;1681230 wrote:Admittedly I haven't read up on the new deal at all. This is a good thing for other organizations as well, all of those mma sponsors no longer allowed by the UFC will be going to other organizations. That is a lot of money for Bellator, WSOF etc fighters.

Obviously I get this is a UFC only deal, I was just using King Mo as an example. Would GSP be allowed to wear his karate gi out? That's what I'm wondering. I think it's important to keep the personalities in combat sports. I like it, why should they have to conform to everything? These guys have needed a union for a long time. You can't compare this deal to the NFL, NBA or NHL deals because those were brokered through collective bargaining with everyone's best interest in mind. This deal was procured solely by Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta and we have no idea if it is going to help or hurt these fighters, a lot of these lower tiered fighters pay their bills and rent with sponsorship money. One possible positive is that if these guys are able to keep their sponsors outside of the cage, plus the reebok sponsor, they will in theory double up. Here's another solid article. Yes it helps lower guys not have to fight for sponsor money, but it also puts a cap on what these guys can bring in through sponsors. Also, having it based on rankings is a tough pill to swallow. The media has a say in what these guys make? Yikes. I did a little reading up on this, and apparently they are going to overhaul the rankings system now that it will impact this. Hendricks if his iron chin holds up. He will get hit a bunch but do enough with his wrestling to earn the decision.

Brown over Schaub. I've actually started liking Schaub after listening to his podcast. I think he can control the fight but his chin will let him down.

Lawler and Hendricks is basically a coin flip type fight but I have a feeling that Robbie is going to catch him and knock him out. Hendricks has been out and Robbie has a ton of momentum coming off two huge wins. Pettis and Melendez comes down to who can force their type of fight. The key to beating Pettis imo is to pressure him non stop and force him to fight in the pocket. If you allow him space to get comfortable he will light you up, Melendez must pressure with boxing and threaten takedowns to win, Pettis is definitely beatable. I think Schaub could beat Browne in the stand up or on the ground but I have a feeling his chin is going to fail him again at some point. Schaub actually has pretty good boxing and a good ground game, not sure what his strategy will be though. I'm excited to see the return of Todd Duffee, that dude is a monster and I think can be a huge star if he can stay healthy. Faber vs Rivera on the prelims will be awesome as well as Ferguson vs Trujillo.
