Just watch...within NFL organizations, emphasis on scouting has picked up immensely. The Bengals just hired scouts for the first time ever.
They know what to look for now more than they did in the past. There will never be a #1 overall QB bust, imo.

If JaMarcus Russell was in this draft, he would have slipped to the 2nd/3rd round. Everybody knew Russell would bust, except for the Raiders. I remember on here NOBODY thought he was going to be any good.BR1986FB;1173983 wrote:This guy says "anything is possible...."

lol you're right, the bungals getting scouts is a sign that every player from here until the end of time will work out.SportsAndLady;1174055 wrote:Just watch...within NFL organizations, emphasis on scouting has picked up immensely. The Bengals just hired scouts for the first time ever.

"According to Billick, though, Boller wasn’t the best college quarterback prospect he saw in his time here. That would be JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in 2007 and one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history."SportsAndLady;1174056 wrote:If JaMarcus Russell was in this draft, he would have slipped to the 2nd/3rd round. Oh so you meant I literally meant EVERYONE in the world thought Russell would bust...you're unbearable to argue with. Hard to argue with because you expect everyone to feed into your spouting of BS.SportsAndLady;1174056 wrote:If JaMarcus Russell was in this draft, he would have slipped to the 2nd/3rd round. Do you ever say "this is the worst day ever?"Commander of Awesome;1174067 wrote:Hard to argue with because you expect everyone to feed into your spouting of BS.
It's called a fucking hyperbole.
And I think I actually mean literally nobody on this site thought he'd be any good lol I remember thinking he wouldn't be thatttttt bad, but was shocked at 100% of the people on here (Huddle) who said bust.
Teams won't make those mistakes anymore...they're drafting a QB #1 overall, they are going to get it right. Stafford, Bradford, Newton, and now Luck...they're going to be good. With the technology out there for scouting, all the money they have to put into scouting, how easy it is to travel and see these prospects...it's not going to happen. Just my opinion..don't have to agree if you don't want

Phil Savage was pissing his pants over him at the time. I think he may have even made an effort to try to trade up for him (but don't quote me on that). Russell would've probably had just as much hype as RG3 in this draft.SportsAndLady;1174056 wrote:If JaMarcus Russell was in this draft, he would have slipped to the 2nd/3rd round. I'm sure if there were other teams drafting at #1, who needed a QB in that draft, they would've taken Russell at that spot.SportsAndLady;1174083 wrote:Which is why Phil Savage isn't a GM anymore lol
It's easy to say now that Russell would be a "2nd/3rd rounder" because you know how he already played in the league. Had he come out as a rookie this year, with nothing to judge him on except his career at LSU, he would've likely been in the conversation with Luck & RG3.

You're right S&L, the highest rated player of all time in the Ravens organization (an org that drafts very well mind you) would have slipped into the 3rd round because everyone on the OC knew he would bust. Just like we all knew that Newton would be a bust.

Not that that this is "earth shattering" but it just goes to show that whoever ranks the Top 100 NFL Players for 2012 is either stupid or on crack. What is wrong with this picture?
#64- Logan Mankins
#67- Joe Staley
#82- Joe Thomas

Scouting will ALWAYS be an imperfect science. When you're dealing with people you can never be completely sure. To say that there will never be another #1 QB bust is absurd....absolutely absurd. JaMarcus Russell had every tool you would want in a quarterback...size, arm, production, etc. but some people just don't make the transition to being a professional. You can look at all the tape you want, do all the interviews you want, but people are the most unreliable commodity out there. Different sport but look at Len Bias for christ's sake.
There will always be sleepers and there will always be busts as long as the human element is involved.

Was listening to Ross Tucker on NFL Radio on the way in this morning and one of their topics was the Steelers O-Line.
Should be interesting as they will have Adams at LT and will be sliding Colon from the right side, where he played tackle, to the left side to play guard. They'll have a rookie at LT and a guy not only switching positions (tackle to guard) but sides of the line (right to left). They will also be relying on these guys to protect Roethlisbergers backside.
Tucker said there's no guarantee that Colon will make a smooth transition since there have been plenty of solid tackles who have tried to move to guard and have failed miserably. He said that the game is "faster" at guard as tackles have time to adjust to a rusher where at guard the defender is right on top of you immediately.
Hopefully this doesn't bode well for them.

This is a logical fallacy. A quite hilarious one at that. I'll see if you can figure out why.SportsAndLady;1173625 wrote:
