They should have traded 4 first round picks to get their QB!lhslep134;1122273 wrote:The problem for the Browns isn't ignorance of the QB need on draft day, it's the unavailability of someone worth the pick.
Lets look at the last few drafts and QBs the Browns did not reach for (in 1st or 2nd round):
2009: Mark Sanchez (traded down), Josh Freeman
2010: Tim Tebow, Jimmy Clausen
2011: Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert, Colin Kaepernick, Andy Dalton
Excuse me, Iggy, but I fail to see a franchise QB in the bunch (jury is out on the 2011 guys but I don't see one outside Dalton). We made our play for a franchise QB this offseason and it wasn't accepted.
What have the Browns been doing instead? How about filling important holes on our team. Alex Mack, Joe Haden, Phil Taylor, Jabaal Sheard, Greg Little, and TJ Ward are guys we took instead of the players I listed above and figure to be keys to our future success.
Excuse me for not caring that the FO hasn't put more faith into overhyped QBs. You can't call McCoy an overhyped QB if we drafted him in the 3rd round.

We should trade Ben GOATson for Aaron Rodgers and Calvin Johnson. Both teams would be willing to trade both as long as GOATson agreed to play 8 games for each team.

Don't be silly.....those teams need to kick in a couple first rounders as well as the aforementioned players

There can be no backup plan when another owner is willing to give away his team's present and future the way Snyder did. There is no way to anticipate or top that -- unless you want to see the Browns give away draft choices for the next 10 years. I don't.BR1986FB;1122156 wrote:As far as the QB goes, I think they thought RG3 was a lock and had no backup plan. I may be wrong on that but it's sure as Hell what it looks like.
This regime has tried twice now (if you believe the rumors from a year ago) to trade before the draft to ensure it got a franchise QB. In both instances, they were either turned down or out bid. Not much more you can do in that situation.
The last thing I want is for them to feel so desperate that they end up hurting any other progress that can be made. Keep building the rest of the team and work on trying to find your QB.

I'd love that signing, but I'm going to bet the price will get into the stupid category very fast. Decent defensive linemen never come cheap. Remember: the Browns are going to have to retain three pretty good ones in the next several years so you have to factor that into any contract you offer.
Also, how come Cincy isn't retaining more of these players? Or maybe they're offering and getting turned down and we just aren't hearing about it.

It could actually happen because it is defense.Commander of Awesome;1122455 wrote:Would like that signing, doubt Heckert gets it done though.
It is only the offensive side of the ball they are interested in neglecting.

Lawson would likely be Fujita's replacement at OLB.Writerbuckeye;1122474 wrote:I'd love that signing, but I'm going to bet the price will get into the stupid category very fast. The Houston Texans traded Demeco Ryans to the Eagles for a 4th round pick. Don't know if anyone has seen that or not...Sounds like a really good deal for the Eagles. Too bad the Browns can't pull off anything like this.

Yeah, they only got about 4 picks (one being a first rounder) for Julio Jones.zach24oz;1122501 wrote:The Houston Texans traded Demeco Ryans to the Eagles for a 4th round pick. I mean them signing/trading for a guy who is Pro-Bowl caliber for a 4th round pick...They made one good deal last draft, but can't pull anything off this free agency period. Maybe they'll do something in the draft that will make up for the lack of pursuing FAs

Anyone else think that serious consideration should be given to drafting Weeden at 22?
I think he is ready to play now, and physically has the size/arm to play the position at a high level in the NFL for a while.
He might be 28 already, but that is not ancient in QB years. Aaron Rodgers is that age, and everyone considers the Packers set at QB for the next decade.
We don't know what he will become, but if we could get 6-7 years of high level play out of him that would be enough for me to say it's worth the risk.
We know McCoy/Wallace are not a long term solution, so to go through the year with them is wasting another year. It's time to bite the bullet and draft a QB that can play now so at least we feel like we are building towards something for once instead of treading water waiting until next year's draft.

No. Just because he is 28, doesn't mean he is ready to play in the NFL.IggyPride00;1122510 wrote:Anyone else think that serious consideration should be given to drafting Weeden at 22?

What makes you think Weeden can play in the NFL at a high level? Is it all of the other highly successful Big 12 QBs currently in the NFL?
And by others, I mean 0.
