Tannehill is every bit as big of a reach that Ponder was last year. I would be so disappointed if they took him at 4

Colt McCoy - QB - Browns

After listening to team president Mike Holmgren and GM Tom Heckert on Thursday's conference call, the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot "gets the feeling" the Browns are prepared to turn back to Colt McCoy as the quarterback in 2012.

"We think Colt has a big ceiling," said Heckert. "It's my job to get him better players." Despite their previous waffling on the subject, both officials now believe it's too early to write off McCoy. Holmgren will try to "discourage" Heckert from trading down at No. 4 overall. McCoy will have to be supported by a strong running game, lending credence to the belief that Alabama's Trent Richardson could be the Browns' top pick rather than Ryan Tannehill.

I'm fine with the Browns' moves so far. Needed DL depth and got two solid players. Not groundbreaking moves, but good ones.

I think I'd be fine with Trent at 4. I'd rather have him than Blackmon. I'd like to see the Browns target Stephen Hill with their second pick. 6'4' WR who ran a 4.3 40.

I'd also be fine giving Colt one more year WITH some weapons to prove his worth.

Technically it would be a 1st (the #6) and two 2nds.

So much for Rucker getting the keys to the car haha.

Completely agree with that. More average depth signings. Nothing special.

I really hope the Browns aren't committing to Patterson as the starting CB opposite of Haden.

Rucker & Sheard will start. Parker, Marcus Bernard & Jayme Mitchell will be in the rotation.

The Rucker signing, imo, was more for stopping the run than a pass rush. He's very good in run support and a "so so" pass rusher. Jayme Mitchell was not good at stopping the run.

done in free agency. Maybe a straggler or two later, maybe not.

That eliminates drafting defense I would guess then because we have no RB's, no receivers, and without free agency it means they are all going to have to come through the draft.

It is looking increasingly likely that if the Browns want Tannehill, they will have to do it at 4 because Jacksonville is talking about selling their pick at 7 to any team that wants him if he is on the board.

With all the QB's in free agency off the board it is looking more and more like another year with Wallace/McCoy, and maybe a 37 year old Hassleback.

None of those 3 offer any long term potential at the position, which is unnacceptable heading into year 3 of the rebuild.

Are we really going to be waiting until year 4 of the rebuild to find a way to get someone in there that offers us more than a 1-2 year stop gap at the position?
GroundHog Day the movie welcomes you to the Cleveland Browns. smh

Take that with a grain of salt. I posted it because it was funny. We're talking about MKC here. This is like you or me saying..."it might rain tomorrow, but then again...it may be sunny, or maybe snow?"

Ok, so knowing what we know now:

Assuming we plan on rolling with McCoy like Holgrem says we're going to, and knowing the free agent signings we've made, who do we take at 4, 22, 37?

I dont understand why we're not at least talking to Steve Smith or Early Doucett's agent. That would enable us to not depend on MoMass who is always hurt this season. Seems to make sense, not sure why we're not.

Was wondering the same about those two. Relying on draft picks is a recipe for another disaster. Need one vet.

Is that why the Packers and Giants won the SB these past 2 seasons?

Whether they bring in a vet WR or not, I'm skeptical this team wins 4 games.

All 3 of those teams have 1st round draft picks at QB, not journey men mid round draft picks.

2 of them, (Steelers & Giants) had 1st round #1 Receivers to throw the ball to.

In Cleveland we have no elite receivers, no QB, and no RB's.

Those teams might have built through the draft as well, but did not do so by neglecting entirely 1 side of the ball and expect to win regardless.

If you thought it was going to take Heckert 2 drafts to build this team, you are just kidding yourself. How many guys are left on the roster from when Mangini/Kokinis came into town?

It's amazing. The regime laid out their plans. Literally have stuck to them, and people are pissed that we aren't doing the opposite. It hasn't been 5 YEARS, QUIT FREAKING OUT.
