I went to the meeting on Monday night. Coach Sikora said he was impressed with the way our kids conducted themselves throughout the game (there was a lot of chirping going on between the teams....most of it started by Girard, and our kids did not get into any physical confrontations with them). He also mentioned how well we handled adversity (leading 20-7, falling behind 28-20, and rallying to win the game). He was very impressed with the fact that the kids played together as a team and sacrificed some personal goals. Sikora stated that among all of the big plays made by Campbell in the game the biggest might have been Reyes scrambling for a first down on a 3rd and 14 in the third quarter. The following play was the Reyes to Rushton touchdown pass that put Campbell into position to tie the game. Sikora said our defensive line caused some big problems for Graziano the entire game.oldschoolreddev;937740 wrote:I hope that we don't have a letdown. But like bigdean said we have to clean up a ton of mistakes. Too many penalties and too many turnovers will catch up to you. Falls will come ready to play because they don't have anything to lose so we have to stay poised and under control to come out on top. I hope that we have some good weather Friday.
Sikora stressed that if we did not turn the ball over five times the game might have not been close because he knew the Girard defense was vulnerable to the pass despite all of the hype. Sikora mentioned that Newton Falls is better than their record indicates and that they have a 4 year starter at QB in Brazin and an excellent wide receiver in Dillon. He said they also run some option. He stressed to the kids on Monday afternoon that Newton Falls has done something this season which Campbell did not do. They beat LaBrae. He senses a new attitude among the kids following the Girard game. He said momentum gained by such a big win can lead to some big things in the coming weeks.
Personally I would like to see Campbell run the same offense they did against Girard the rest of the way. If a team wants to pack 8 or 9 men in the box and dare us to throw it, we should. If a team wants to blitz we can hit those quick slants and run that draw play that was so successful vs. Girard.
