I have a couple friends on Facebook who keep going on about the cops harrassing and assaulting members of the OWS group. Has anyone seen a video to back up the claims? I'm getting tired of hearing about it. I'm not saying there aren't dirty cops but I just can't imagine the cops are just going around and causing problems without reason.

I don't know about cops assaulting OWS folks who are peacefully demonstrating. I do know of an OWS assault in San Diego on someone with a camera on public property - http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2011/11/tea-partier-violently-assaulted-at-occupy-san-diego-video/

Gee, I wonder if charges will be filed? Where are the police here?

These demonstrators are just like the Tea Party.

http://gothamist.com/2011/11/08/panini_shop_owner_says_occupy_wall.php
Occupy Wall Street has tried to reduce the strain on local businesses by setting up three 24-hour porta potties several blocks from the park on Friday. But DNAinfo reports that as of yesterday, many occupiers didn't know they existed, and others chose not to use them. "I use a street corner, a telephone pole," 22-year-old protester Terrence Hubbard says. "I did it a couple of times in my tent when I was lazy. Otherwise, I go to McDonald's." Another protester, Amanda Funaro, 20, says, "Everybody was happy about it, but I still use McDonald's because it's close and I like to use a real toilet." Anyway, it beats using that devil toilet in the panini shop.
Too lazy to get up to piss?

Arrest them for it. And can McDonald's deny them access if they are not patrons?

Yes, open to the public doesn't mean a public place. They can deny access to anyone for nearly any reason.

Yes McDonald's could deny them access and pissing in public is a crime so they could be validly arrested.

Why were the police assaulting citizens there? No one was throwing anything.

I really don't get why these protestors have a beef with the police.

They don't. The police have a beef with the protesters. In NYC at least it could be because they get paid a lot of money by the people the protesters are protesting about.

The police have a duty to maintain order. These protestors are brinking the police on purpose and they should be swiftly punished to stop the potential for the situation to get out of hand. You can have a peaceful protest, but trying to make your protest make national news by getting in a fight with the cops and then claiming police brutality is a cop out and a joke.

Also, your story is cute. The older generation did give you great advice, but I guess they should have added that college doesn't guarantee you a job, but it does give you a better chance that you don't have to be flipping burgers. What do these kids want anyway? Companies just to hand out jobs like candy? LOL

This. The fact that there are people who honestly think that the cops are the ones starting trouble with the protestors makes me laugh. That is some extreme thinking. I suppose the cops are "the man" trying to keep the protestors down.

Well in this video the protesters were standing and yelling which is sort of the crux of a protest. The cops then began beating people with clubs, sort of the crux of abusive power. Notice that at no time did the protesters fight back or anything. Where is the validation for all of your claims that they are just waiting for a chance to be violent? They didn't.

And people don't expect to be handed jobs but we also don't want to be called lazy because we can't find a job in our field and aren't happy with having to settle with a menial job (which we were told all our lives were below us/warned that if we didn't go to college we'd have to work them).

Hell it's been even longer than that and not just in the US. Read Black Shack Alley and tell me if it wouldn't be a tragedy if after all the sacrifice and hard work of the main character and his family to put him through school he was unable to find a job and had to go back to work in the sugar cane fields? It would be horrifyingly sad. And that's what people are upset about. Not being able or seeing a way to be able anytime in the near future for people to be working any sort of job that allows them to do anything other than barely pay their low cost of living.

It's no longer "work hard and get an education and you're likely to be able to improve your life" that we hear from conservatives but "why the fuck are you complaining? You could live in Somalia".

I don't fucking care if they want to start a fight unless they do, in fact, start a fight.

Motivation behind the yelling is absolutely irrelevant unless they initiate violence.

If you can't see that yelling at cops in an aggressive manner is not "starting a fight" then you are ignorant, blind, and likely unemployed.

They don't really know who to protest, or where to protest....they are just unhappy and the only way to get attention is to start shit with cops.

Students pissed off they have no job with a mountain of debt....maybe they should think about protesting at the Capital Building or the White House, or perhaps the front lawn of the President of their university. But if they were smart enough to do that, most of them would probably have a job.

Also, please stop calling themselves the 99%. I doubt there are any 2-percentile or even 5-percentile folks camping out protesting.
