What a piece of shit.

I hate when coaches do this. You recruited these kids to UC, you at least owe it to them to coach their bowl game.

I hope he fails. He seems like a douche anyway.

Actually ~11 of his starters were Dantonio recruits

(I am an idiot and need to check dates before I post something)

But I'm not talking about the starters in general, I'm talking about all the players as an entirety.

He's had what, two classes with UC so far? Stick it out to after the season. IMO, he's turning his back on his players.

Either way, regardless of whether or no he's recruited a player, it's HIS team now.

if he's gonna go, he can't stay for the bowl game. nd definitely wouldn't let him, and i doubt uc would either.

If ND gets Kelly, that should be a good pick up for them.

Dumb.

Coaches leave. It's the nature of the beast. If you are a player committing to a school, you run the risk of your coach not being there the whole time that you are.

Do you apply this same principle to the corporate world? A manager at an office shouldn't take a promotion to another branch because he hired the people at his current branch?

Bottom line is, coaches leave. The kids understand that going in.

The media hype machine would have got an undefeated ND team into the National Championship. It was able to do it with Florida in 06 and with Notre Dame it would have been even worse. ND is and always will be rated higher than they deserve, it is just the nature of the beast. They would never be left out of a National Championship game undefeated.

I don't get it why people are jumping on him for leaving for a better job. It's more money. It's a more prestigious school. It's one of those jobs that coaches dream of. There is absolutely no way he turns down Notre Dame. Cincinnati wasn't even getting 30,000 fans at their games not too long ago. It's a different beast.

I think Kelly will be very successful at Notre Dame. He has won at every stop, and I don't see why that will change now.

I said it in another thread, but the main reason for my dislike of Notre Dame was because of Weis. Now that they have Kelly, I'll be cheering for them every week.

I think Notre Dame found their coach of the next 20 years.

I can't imagine Coombs coaching them in the Sugar Bowl, quite the jump from Colerain just a little bit ago. :D

When a player commits to a mid level school like cincy, they know two things...1. They will not get a chance at a MNC and 2. Their school is a stepping stone for their coach and have the potential to lose him.

That is also correct. When you go to an Ohio State, or USC, or Florida, you think that your coach will be there all four years.

But at the mid level programs, you have to expect that with some success the coach will look to move on. When my brother was recruited, I went on a couple visits and one of the questions we also asked was, "Do you plan on being here for four years". The coaches were surprisingly honest about it, saying they were happy and really enjoyed where they were at, but that they would be lying if they said that if a better opportunity presented itself they would move on.

Brian Kelly is one helluva consolation prize.

Now please don't get it twisted.....no return to glory talk here, no savior stuff, no ND is back mumbo jumbo. I just think that they've made the best coaching hire that they've made since Holtz. I think they got it right and I sure as hell hope that turns out to be true. I'm guessing that they made one last play for Meyer and a strong push for Stoops, both of which would've been great hires, but I'll take a Brian Kelly as a third choice in a heartbeat. He's a proven college head coach. That's enough for me for now.
I completely agree ewok. I too have said all along if ND couldn't get Meyer or Stoops that Kelly was the next best selection. IMO, he reminds of Meyer and how he came up through the ranks. The guys a proven winner and will have quite a few returning players at his disposal when he arrives in South Bend.

My question is did Notre Dame work out lowering their standards for the new coach? According to one poster here that was to be in the deal.

Just learn to filter from your brain to what you post. Don't go around posting EVERYTHING you read WHEN you read it. That's why people don't like you. Shit, this was discussed at length almost exactly 24 hours before you posted it, right on this very forum. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that if something is over 24 hours old on a hot topic, it's already been discussed.

What, you mean NO Bob Stoops!!?? ;) ND should feel very fortunate to get Kelly. If I were a ND fan, I'd be pretty happy with this selection....IF its true.

Unreal the twists this damn coaching search is taking. When it looks like Kelly is a done deal, it now being reported that Uconn's Edsall and ND have mutual interest:
