Yes, lesbians are gay but we generally just call them lesbians. They are part of the gay community.

Got it. If I understand correctly it simply further clarifies a female who is gay. Can't the entire community simply be referred as gay without the need to segregate the lesbians or should the males be referred to separately also?

What's the term for a male homosexual? I could understand that term combined with lesbian when describing the community. I could understand the Gay community because it's all inclusive. Calling you an idiot would be a compliment. We're talking about children's lives. Every one of them is precious. It's jerks like you that cause these kids to want to kill themselves. I know a lot of gays who are not sissies. I hope you meet up with one of them someday.

I apologize Fairwood but a lot of this is brought on by looking for attention. I'm sorry but I refuse to believe that if a gay man was in the hospital and his partner went to see him that he would be refused. Just like the don't ask don't tell law. Who the F cares if you are gay? Keep it to yourself. I can't think of a job where I have ever walked in and said damn I'm straight! What about you guys? Oh and the thing about being bullied Gochiefs is right. I got picked on up until my sophomore year and I'm still here. Most people get picked on throughout their childhood and they don't commit suicide. Now I will be awaiting a liberal to tell me I am uninformed and bigoted.

Refusing visitation rights for a domestic partner is a lot more common than you would believe. It usually happens when a patient's family refuses to let the partner visit.

There is an easy solution to some of these problems, like being allowed to visit a partner in the hospital. Go to an attorney and put together a packet of legal papers that say what you want it to say: that X is to be allowed to make medical decisions for you if you can't and is to be allowed visitation if you're hospitalized; that your property will go to X if you pre-decease him; that your house is owned jointly and X has right of survivorship.

You get the idea.

It's not difficult and it costs very little compared to the peace of mind you'd have, as opposed to waiting for some government body, somewhere, to acknowledge your relationship and validate what you can validate yourself.

Now I realize this doesn't work with everything (like health insurance benefits, or Social Security survivor benefits) but it can cover the stuff you really want protected (home, money, property, medical decisions).

Teenage suicide is not a laughing matter. It doesn't matter if the kids are straight or gay, they should not be bullied to the point of wanting to take their own lives. I have already posted a link that shows that gay kids are five times more likely to try to kill themselves. Responsible adults like me are doing our best to prevent this problem.

I'm so tired of abortion and gay rights being election issues. Who cares? I don't one way or the other, but I don't see why not.

But if you really want to piss on everyone's cheerios, why should couples get favorable treatment at all? Why does the single person not get any breaks? They have higher taxes, they get no deductions for children, they have no health benefits to share...Of course, part of the reason for that is we feel, I'll say 2 parents, is the best situation for social stability. And it's really about procreation, because when population growth slows the decline begins. Oh, wait, I'm making an argument against gay unions...

And just on a related note...common law aside, you know how many men would love to be able to live with their girlfriend indefiintely without putting a ring on her finger? Careful what you wish for, all I'm saying...divorce rate=50%

I've always said that The State has no business sanctioning marriage.

If the Gay community wants equality they should be fighting for the end of State sanctioned marriage of heterosexual people. The people can designate who their benefits and visitation rights are the same way they do their living healthcare wishes and resuscitation orders.

If they don't wish to be married they won't be.

I would like to see a statistic that is apples to apples like gay kids and fat kids. They are both picked on in school (which is wrong) so it would be a more accurate study than just comparing suicide rates of homos vs heteros.
