I think it is often inevitable to find out someone's sexual preference in the workplace, especially in the military. Everyone lives and works so closely together in the military that it is NEARLY impossible to hide your sexual orientation. Under DADT, even if you didn't openly admit you were gay, but they found e-mails, letters, photos, etc. of a person that made it evidently clear they were gay, they would be discharged. Even though they were not asked and they didn't tell, they were found out and discharged. You just described every 'group' in high school. Hell, I went through all you just said for being overweight. Quit acting like bullying is more prominent against gays or lesbians in school, because it's not. Like I said, everyone gets bullied.

IMO, what you described isn't a 'lifestyle', it's just a "Hey, look at me, I'm gay" agenda.

When I said "group," I meant any age, any race, any gender, any orientation, any anything. Gay teenagers are more apt to commit suicide than anyone else in this country. The statistics are there to prove it. Yes, other kids do get bullied, but they generally have support somewhere. I have a background in education and I have worked with gay teens. Some of these children have no support anywhere on this planet except for what people like me can give them. The one criticism of "It Gets Better" is that some of these kids are in so deep right now that they can't wait two or three years until after they get out of high school. They need help immediately. It's up to people like me to figure out how these kids can get immediate help.

That's why we encourage gay and lesbian people to get out of the closet and be visible. If we didn't constitute a significant portion of the population, I don't think Obama and other top political leaders would have contributed to "It Gets Better" nor would Obama have put his neck on the line to get rid of Don't Ask Don't Tell.

You may not like our tactics, but you have to admit they're working. Every year this country gets better for gays and lesbians. I think in about twenty years we will have full equality. I just hope I'm alive to see it.

Because we're not nearly there yet. It was just a few years ago that homosexual activity was illegal in many states. And Don't Ask Don't Tell is just now being repealed. There are still many places in this country where gay partners do not have visitation rights in hospitals. And 44 states do not allow gay marriage. We still have a lot of work to do.

Homosexual women generally prefer to be called lesbians. If you refer to "a gay," you are usually talking about a man. And then there are the younger gays and lesbians who often describe themselves as "q u e e r." We older folks are not as fond of that.
