There was a tornado in Celina on Tuesday night......tore up an Aldi's and an intersection and such and a few other signage in the area.

When the storm was approaching my wife was freaking out, and when I said 'it will be alright, more people die from falling off a ladder like that one (we are painting the room) than by a tornado'.

Was that insensitive?

If people were in contact with tornados as frequently as ladders, there'd be more people dying from tornados. Not a great argument. Falling 4 ft off a ladder won't destroy your home.

I thought about that as well....but geesh......over 300 people die a year from falling off a ladder and less than half of that from a tornado. My thought process is just pure a flat numbers game...more people die from ladders than tornados.

Do they suck? Yeah.

Should be cautious? Yeah.

Freak out totally from something ya cannot control?

She is a woman and they do freak out over much more trivial things than tornados.

No. I love storms. I've never actually seen a tornado so I am sure I'd freak if one was right in front of me but I prefer to sit outside and watch a good storm roll through when it happens.

I was the same way until last year when a tornado came and destroyed the HS I went to and killed several people. I don't freak out during big storms now but I certaintly get a little nervous.

Love a good storm. Like to watch em at night cause of the lightening is pretty cool to watch. If the tornado sirens are going off I will sit outside and listen hoping to hear it and get the family to cover just in case. Ive seen a tornado and its pretty neat to see but wouldnt want to be in a house when it gets hit by one thats for sure

I admittedly got a little nervous tuesday because I was in a old farm house and I thought the roof was coming off. The only time I have ever been really scared was a couple of weeks ago when I was driving and it was raining so hard I couldn't see then very strong winds came through causing a big tree limb to come crashing down on my car. Thought for sure I was going to get blown away or crushed by a tree.

Same here, I assume you are talking about Lake HS.....I'm only 10-15 min. from there, and it definitely changed my perspective. I no longer run out on the porch to watch, we head to the basement, moreso now that we have a baby as well.

I've never had an experience whereby freaking out helped me in anyway. Do what needs to be done and help others do the same. Is there really anymore than we can do?

Nope, wasn't freaking out. It was pretty bad here in Hamilton County but I was still awake when it all started. I just went up and woke up my wife and we took the dogs down to the basement for about 15 minutes. She wasn't freaking out and neither were the dogs.

They dont bother me. If it wasnt for my dogs, gf and sirens I would have slept through the entire thing.

Love a good storm with lighting, rain and thunder boomers … not a fan of heavy winds. We have a room at the Belly house that is all glass, love sitting in the wicker chair and watch the storm roll in. Turn out the lights and just watch. My family three daughters and a wife would freak .. hates storms.

Good storm reminds me of being in the bush during the Vietnam monsoon season … talk about rain, lighting and thunder....

What I also love is the early morning smell of the freshness after a rain…

I have been in a tornado and hurricane, it was intense.

Same here too. Definitely went outside that night to check it out, probably won't do that again.

Living on Lake Erie we enjoy the summertime storms that can roll across the Lake. The power is awesome.

Wife called the ex to make sure her son was OK as th storm was heading their way.

So what did that guy do in hte m iddle of the night? Hop into the car and drive him and his sone to another place.......one that didnt even have a basement either.

Just didnt make sense to me to do that either.

The tornado siren in our town is in the HS parking lot directly behind our house so when it went off at 2:15 it startled me and the dog. Hubby was at work so we got up and headed to the living room to turn on the tv and keep an eye out. My dog was freaking out but I wasn't. Didn't see the need to go to the basement so we went back to bed about an hour later after the dog settled down.

My wife flipped out. The sirens are going off, the wind actually sounded like a tornado. (Ive been through 2 in my life) so I was like "lets get to the basement". (from our second story) I grab my phone and a radio, as I'm going down the stairs in my 1/2 asleep stupor I slip and fall down the last half of the stairs. I get downstairs and check things out, we have only half our power, which to me has never happened. (All lights were dim, not EVERYTHING was working, really strange)

By the time we get to the basement the worst has passed, but the sirens keep going off until about 3:30am. This freaks my wife out more, so I suggest we sleep on the couches downstairs for the night just in case. (Mind you, I fell down the stairs and sleeping on the couch is the LAST thing I want to do!)

Needless to say, no damage to my house here in Newark, but we had a tornado confirmed today about a mile and 1/2 away from me in Heath, and another about 10 miles to the east. All in all I had to play mediator and keep her wits about her, so she didn't go off the deep end, and all I got out of the deal was a stoved up neck, wrist and ankle. It's made working out a pain in the ASS the last few days! LOL

I never freak out about storms, but the wife does.

Living just over the border and working in Genoa, I too have become more cautious with storms given last year's events. I remember driving down to the school to get some things and just looked in aw at the destruction in Lake TWP and the surrounding areas.

If anything, I am more interested into how intense the storm will be and it's path but not scared. Used to, I'd brush it off and listen to the thunder.
