I knew he was on board for an episode or two, but according to the little clip at the end of the office, Farrell is the new boss. They might it sound like a permanent thing.

Whaddaya think? I like the idea.

I love the Office but Ferrell taking over would be a breath of fresh air. Carell's act is getting stale on the show

I also won't be missing Holly. Not sure why people wanted her to return to the show.

Hopefully Michael's departure will lead to the end of the office relationships and love triangles for a while. The show was much funnier before it became a soap opera

I haven't ever liked the show.

I definitely won't watch it with Will Farrell, especially if [and when] he takes his shirt off...

I'm in the minority, I think Farrell to be overrated and not as funny as he thinks he is.

I guess it is pick your poison. You get that with Ferrell or you get Carell's shtick. (Act crazy, do/say something inappropriate, office gets mad at him, and then Michael Scott realizes his mistake, smoothes it over and by the end of the episode, everybody is happy again

I completely agree. I think he's one of the least funny people in comedy.

Whoever said Ferrel would be a breath of fresh air is wrong because every character he plays is essentially the same. If he is a permanent addition I will do what I should have done two seasons ago and stop watching.

Not a fan, so I did not know how to spell his name, so I looked at the OP.

eh you might have somewhat of a point. That's kind of the go-to point for a lot of Ferrell detractors, but if you look at all of his movies and not just the obvious ones, he is able to play different characters. I mean look at his time on SNL.

Some people don't want to see Carell leave, and I was originally one of them. However after watching this show for the last 2 seasons, I can say at this point I don't care. The show is spinning its wheels and needs something to spice it up. In all honesty, they would have been much smarter to end the show somewhere between where season 3 ended and where season 4 started. History would have been much kinder to them (going out on top). The series as it stands now, is about to need euthanized.

I would rather see Daryl replace Carell and run the office than Ferrel, plus it rhymes.

Not every character he does is exactly the same, but they are close enough that it sure feels that way. While Michael Scott was wacky, Carrel played him with enough sincerity that it was believable that there could be someone who actually was that awkward. Ferrel on the other hand plays every character like a cartoon. He's so outlandish it's unrealistic, which is part of the reason all his characters seem similar. For me, I don't find that character very funny.

I agree that the show jumped the shark ages ago, and history may have remembered the show more fondly had it ended after season three, however, syndication would not have remembered the show as fondly. The more episodes you have to sell into syndication, the more money you can make, because networks can air more episodes per day and will carry a syndicated show longer the more seasons it has.

Personally I was really hoping that Ricky Gervais would be the new boss when he made a cameo at the beginning of the season, of that they would promote someone from within the office to be the new boss and bring in another new character somewhere else.

Which makes him the perfect replacement for the equally unfunny and overrated Steve Carrell

I agree Ferrell plays a lot of the same character. I've always enjoyed most of his movies though, except for a few that were just terrible. He also only signed on for four episodes, so he might not be Carrell's replacement. It sure looked like it in the preview though...

I really enjoyed last night's episode, but include me in the group that isn't thrilled with Farrell joining the cast..to be honest, I think the show has run it's course--let it be D-O-N-E !!!!

Ferrell reportedly confirmed that he is only signed on for 4 episodes at this point, but he also said that he would like to become a regular cast member. Heard this on the radio the other day
