Can't wait!
Just wanted to bump this up - 1 week from today! Fingers cross my beer store has it. Honestly, if any Beersnob on here can get either one, i'll pay the price of the bomber plus half and shipping. Just saying.

Hey dudes, long time.

Did anybody mention that Oskar Blues is available in Ohio now?

Also, just picked up a bottle of DFH 75 Minute.

Howdy and Welcome Back !!!

I believe I mentined that about Oskar Blues back when I found out they were first coming to Ohio and COA recommended I try it. Nice to see that they are officially here. Gotta get some soon.

I haven't seen the 75 Minute yet this year. I'll have to look for it. I got a bottle of it last year, but it's long gone.

Since you are back you have to check out the Jungle Jims Eastgate location. Nice growler station and 25 cent samples !!!

Because that's what's between 60 and 90 minute IPA. Below quoted from the DFH Website...
Blend two Dogfish Head favorites, add maple syrup and carbonate the mixture naturally. What do you get? 75 Minute IPA.

The carbon dioxide trapped during bottle conditioning gives 75 Minute IPA a soft and velvety mouthfeel. Dry-hopped with whole-leaf Cascades, this complex IPA has been known to inspire pilgrimages to our brewpub.

Now were sharing this animated blend of 60 Minute and 90 Minute with the rest of our fans, 750 milliliters at a time.

People that drink Keystone will need an hour and fifteen minutes to stuff one down. Real snobs will snuff one down in fifteen minutes (after proper breathing time )

So basically it's just a name? No actual "75-minutes" about it?

Hops are added by just a little bit gradually for '60', '75', '90' minutes into the boil instead of just once or twice like other beers.

It's odd that you mention that because I just went there for the first time today. I LOVE the way its laid out. Much more organized than the Fairfield JJ's.

An Old Chub? (Now available in Ohio)

No, with this one I think they just call it that because its a mix of 60 and 90 Minute IPAs. But like BORIS said, the 60 and 90 refer to how long they continuously hop the mash (I think) while they're brewing it. The chemicals in hops break down while you're boiling them, so if continuously add fresh hops, it adds more hop flavor, and more importantly, more alcohol content.

Got my 75 minute chilling right now. Looking forward to cracking that one open tonight. If I like it...which I'm sure I will...I'll be going back to the store to pick some up tomorrow.

Also picked up some Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin.

Mooney - Did you see any O'Fallon Pumpkin at Jungle Jim's? They didn't have any at Hyde Park Wine and Spirits when I went today. I'm dying to try it.

I did not.

Oh and don't worry about that 75 min getting too cold, the flavor comes out a lot more when it's cool but not cold.

Good because I couldn't wait.

And it's fantastic!

Bummer about the O'Fallon. If any Cincy beer snobs see it out, let me know.

They're continuously hopped for that length of time. Usually you just add the bittering hops at say 60 minutes and then the aroma hops at 15 minutes or so.

No. Hops add absolutely nothing to the alcohol content of a beer. That comes from the sugars which come from the grain bill and any other fermentables you add. Hops do not increase the original gravity of a beer.

They affect the taste, I know (which is obviously why the more hops it has, the more bitter it is), but does it affect anything else? I've never really considered anything beyond taste.

Hops affect the taste and aroma as well as the head of the beer. It also acts as somewhat of a preservative. But they have zero fermentables. Which is easily seen by the layer of hop "chub" at the bottom of a primary fermenter, if they fermented out then there would be no such deposit.

Is it weird that I get happy when someone is this nerdy about beer?
