I really like DFH India Brown Ale. Obviously from the name it's like a hoppy brown ale. One of my favorites from them.

Brown Ales are probably my least favorite style but DFH Indian Brown Ale is awesome. Sierra Nevada Tumbler and Samual Smiths are both good too.Raw Dawgin' it;1298409 wrote:I'm a big brown ale fan - just picked up a 6 of Brookland Brown on a recommendation from my beer guy. Anyone on here have any suggestions? I really like Bear Republic Tribute and New Castle a lot. Always looking for new browns though.

Got a DFH Miles Davis Bitches Brew coming this weekend, along with a couple from Boulevard. Haven't had any of their offerings before, but they have been highly recommended.

This sounds pretty good. It's a mixed drink but does have beer in it.

Decided to pick up some random beers, I see why I rarely get a mix 6 cause I sped $20 on a 6 pack... Ended up with the following.
Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye
Bear Republic Racer 5
Ballest Point Sculpin
Bells Expedition Stout
Founders Porter
Green Flash Friendship Brew

Bought myself a 6-pack of 2012 American Brewed Bud Lights. It's got a subtle taste of clean with a touch of crisp. I highly recommend it.

As I recall, a porter was a sort of way to serve an "aged" beer quickly. Back in the 1700s, beer was shipped prior to aging, and it had to be aged by the local distributors (pubs, eateries, etc.). A way to serve it as "aged" while making the most of everything available was to combine a third of a pint of "new" beer that hadn't been aged enough yet with a third of a pint of appropriately aged beer with a third of a pint of old or skunked beer.Commander of Awesome;1298319 wrote:http://www.beerconnoisseur.com/porter-versus-stout
The answer to the question: "What's the difference between a stout and a porter" is that originally a stout was simply a strong version of porter: today the difference is whatever you want it to be.
There's another story about the "three thread" beer. It was similar in that it was a third of each of three portions, but as I recall, they were three separate kinds of beer.

Well I was mostly just fucking with RDI, but most beers are best served around 55 degrees. When they're ice cold (right out of the fridge) it mutes some of the taste. I think this is most pronounced in Stouts and Barelywines but have noticed it in other beers as well. If I'm drinking a bomber, I'll sometimes let it sit out for 10 min. Otherwise take it out of the fridge and pour first in a snifter. I like the see how the taste changes as it warms up. Snifters are great as well as your hand touches more of the beer, thus your hand will help warm it up faster.ernest_t_bass;1299179 wrote:Why?
Beers like Pilsners, who gaf, I'll drink that straight out of the fridge or a beer I've had a lot. I pay $8-$10 for a bomber though, I'm there to enjoy it more than a thirst quencher.

Yeah, there are certain kinds that I don't feel like I miss anything from when I drink them out of the fridge. Pale Ales, Witbiers, Heffeweisens, Pilsners, Lagers, Black Lagers, and even a milder IPA all seem okay out of the fridge. I certainly don't think it hurts any of them to be drank a little warmer, but barleywines, stouts, porters, Imperial IPAs ... anything with a bold taste to it ... should be allowed to warm up at least some.Commander of Awesome;1299185 wrote:Well I was mostly just fucking with RDI, but most beers are best served around 55 degrees. One of my favorite Stouts (and Speedway). Is this an aged bottle? Reason I ask is I heard this years went above 12% and therefore wasn't available in Ohio. I haven't seen it at all.BORIStheCrusher;1299232 wrote:First time having the Expedition, this beer is pretty awesome. Almost 11% abv, it's kicking my ass too.

Picked up some Hoptologist from Knee Deep Brewing. I've never heard of it, but it was recommended by the person in the Beer Dept. He said it beat out Ruination and Pliny the Elder at some contest. I Googled it and here's the article. ---> http://kneedeepbrewing.com/blog/news/hoptologist-a-double-gold-medal/#
I'm looking forward to trying this one !!!
