Latest beer. It's a dark IPA that we added a shitload of dark and chocolate malts to which gives it a nice roastiness and malt presence that really balances out the nice hopiness of it all.

On to Brown Shugga' Lagunitas beer. Great brew, similar though fails in comparison to Double Bastard. Speaking of Stone, picked up 2 IRS tonight, I'm sure they're fantastic. $6 here for a bomber, vx the close to $10 I used to pay.

Of course 3 Floyds goes with out saying. We get bombers here in Ohio, but no sixers.sherm03;1297833 wrote:Going to Indianapolis for a few days for work. Any suggestions on beers to pick up while I'm there that I can't get in Ohio besides Fat Tire?
I also concur with the Boulevard Wheat. LOVE that stuff. I wish I could get it in Ohio.
Maybe checkout Upland Brewing. They are just now distrubiting to Cincy. I've had their IPA and it's not too bad. Looking forward to trying their other beers.
Side note Sherm and Justin and any other Cincy Snobs, Arthur's is going to all local beers next Tuesday. Jason Roper, from Rivertown, was just on Fox19 with someone from Arthurs promoting it. I believe Cincy is up to atleast six breweries now with more scheduled to open. I'll be checking Arthur's out soon as I've never been there.

I had this last night - Flying Dog Gonzo (Imperial Stout, 9.2%). Flying dog is local to me so i tend to get it a lot. They had a free tasting at my beer store last week and i really liked the stuff. They also have a hop free IPA, which tasted nothing like an IPA haha

I really liked it. I like that it's in a 6 pack and not a bomber, 2 of these and i would've really been feeling it.O-Trap;1298145 wrote:How was the Gonzo? I like most of what I've had from Flying Dog.

I don't think I've ever had an Imperial Stout that wasn't potent like that. I'll have to look for it.Raw Dawgin' it;1298149 wrote:I really liked it. I like that it's in a 6 pack and not a bomber, 2 of these and i would've really been feeling it.

That Gonzo is an incredible Imperial Porter. I've had it on a few occasions and plan on having more when the weather turns colder, by colder I mean below 90 degrees.O-Trap;1298156 wrote:I don't think I've ever had an Imperial Stout that wasn't potent like that. I'll have to look for it.

I agree, Gonzo is really good. One of the few beers I like from Flying Dog. Although the 'Imperial Porter' bothers me for some reason, doesn't make any sense.Curly J;1298178 wrote:That Gonzo is an incredible Imperial Porter. Isn't a Gonzo where you put your balls over a girls eyes and the dick hangs down the nose, like Gonzo from the muppets?

Is there really much of a difference between stouts and porters?

The answer to the question: "What's the difference between a stout and a porter" is that originally a stout was simply a strong version of porter: today the difference is whatever you want it to be.

That article is long and pretentious, i stopped reading half way through and found a better one. I was googling before you posted and that was the first hit.Commander of Awesome;1298319 wrote:http://www.beerconnoisseur.com/porter-versus-stout

This is why 'Imperial Porters' don't make much sense. But there are a lot of beers that fit into different classes and brewers can call them whatever.Commander of Awesome;1298319 wrote: originally a stout was simply a strong version of porter

I'm a big brown ale fan - just picked up a 6 of Brookland Brown on a recommendation from my beer guy. Anyone on here have any suggestions? I really like Bear Republic Tribute and New Castle a lot. Always looking for new browns though.
