I was more excited over the Mangini hire, and that is saying a lot.

Hopefully I eat my words, but I dont see him taking Cleveland anywhere that Cleveland wants to be.

that's why I don't get the hire...they are talking about how they want to bring a coach who can lead us to a championship. Well from my standpoint, this hire is not that. I mean i trust the organization and will back this guy obviously until he proves otherwise, but still I would've at least wanted something a little more promising

Just wondering, did we ever give any thought to hiring him as OUR head coach? I dont think he will be all that great (and will likely fall short of his brother). But I think he wouldve been a better hire than Shurmer, especially from a PR standpoint, and national recognition, which while it doesnt bring wins directly, Ive always been convinced it does indirectly.

Like everyone else, I'm skeptical on this hire. But, I'm putting my trust in the FO. Holmgren knows this is on him. It's his guy. He hasn't been a head coach before. But, head coaches have to start somewhere. Praying it works out.

Well Ryan is almost certain to not come back....and Fox if he doesn't get the Broncos job, will most likely come to Cleveland to be D-coordinator.

I sure hope this works out, because we can not I repeat CAN NOT go through this again in 2 years.....The Browns are in desperate need of stability and committment within the organization. That is the only way we will win more than we lose.

you never know

sometimes the no name guys work out

Mike Tomlin was a surprise hire, same as Cowher back in 1992, and Raheem Morris with the Bucs

I just hope with the help of Holmgren, and then if they could land Fox as the D-Coordinator....those two guys could really help him be the next great head coach.

Now we need to switch our focus on getting more talent on this team.

I would love that but can't see him coaching this year. He's still getting 4-5 million(?) this year from the Vikes.

At least he'll look good stylin' his Magnum P.I. 'stache while staring towards the field with a bewildered look on his face as things implode around him. I'd have to guess that is the reason he keeps getting hired.

I have no idea whether this is a good move or not -- and I was not a fan of firing Mangini after only two years. I wanted them to revamp the offensive coaching and leave the rest alone for the sake of continuity. Changing coaches every few years will never get you a winning team.

Now it looks like we are officially rebuilding once again.

A new coach, who will likely bring in almost all new coaches, including a defensive coordinator that is unlikely to run the 3-4. So we're REALLY rebuilding from scratch on that side of the ball.

If they can't retain Seely as special teams coach (he's likely gone since he also held an assistant coach's title), then the loss is magnified by quite a bit more, since he had Cleveland's special teams near the top of the league during his tenure.

Like all Browns fans, I want to believe Holmgren has it right and knows what he's doing here. If this turns out to be an ego move (having his guy in place instead of the owner's) or some twisted thing that came about because all these folks have the same agent, then I will likely drop the NFL like I dropped MLB about 10 years ago.

After a while, you just get sick of the ineptitude and realize it's not worth the emotional toll. I'll always treasure the memories I have of learning football while watching the Browns with my father and grandfather, and the important part it played in our family during those years. But those times are long gone, and what has masqueraded as the Browns (somewhat) under Modell and definitely since "the return" hasn't been but a ghost of the proud franchise I grew up with.

I pretty much lost my passion for pro football overall after the Browns were stolen. Having several years without watching one second of an NFL game, really detached me from the sport. Since 1999, I've only watched one NFL playoff game (the Browns were in it, obviously) and no other playoff games or Super Bowls. So it's not like I'm heavily invested in the league, other than watching the Browns.

Honestly, I get tons more enjoyment from college sports these days than I do from anything professional, and that's not going to be changing. It's just a matter of whether I feel like investing myself in another complete rebuild or not.
