Texting while driving. Please don't do it, and talk to your family about it.

My wife was in an accident 2 months ago when someone was texting and rearended her. Thankfully no one was hurt.

I know I am guilty of this too, I have tried to keep my hands off my phone of late though and be more mindful of it while driving!

I'm guilty of this, but it is something that I'm trying to cut out. I think it should be illegal, but don't know how you can enforce it.

Come to think of it, I think Toledo just finally passed this as a new law.

Damn near impossible. The cops would have to get warrants to get your phone records and match up an outgoing text with when you were pulled over

It's illegal in Bexley as well. I just don't understand how you enforce it. If someone is reading an email is that illegal? If someone if looking at their phone to see who is calling is that illegal?

Exactly what I thought, if "texting" is illegal, how do they prove you weren't emailing or making a call, or in my case with an iphone, changing a song.

Seriously doubt it will ever get enforced, especially here in Toledo.

During the crash investigation they can figure it out when they check with the phone company. They already do that to determine if someone was on a phone call. If they determine you were texting at the time of the crash, they charge you with that.

if you click the link in my OP, that's how they found out that guy was texting. he killed 2 people and got significant jailtime, since then the penalty for killing someone while texting and driving is much much worse.

Yeah I try to avoid texting while driving. I used to be able to text without looking on my old RAZR with T9...but my iPhone I don't quite have as much success.

I can only think of one thing thats harder than texting while driving...

I think that's the only workable answer, kind of like a gun crime carries extra time.

I also suspect that if you are driving down the road and a police officer should observe you texting, I imagine that would give him probable cause to pull you over and charge you as well.

It's unsafe and people who say it doesn't interfere with their driving are idiots. There were numberous threads about this 'over there' and it never failed that some kids would say they actually drove better while they were texting.

LOL that's like me saying I'm a better driver when I'm swigging out of a bottle of Jameson, yeah chances are I might think that - doesn't make it correct.

Bad logic. Your statement is true until it's no longer true.

Bottom line, you aren't driving as well as you otherwise would. That it hasn't caused an accident yet does not change that fact.

Texting while driving should be punishable by death.

Alright, maybe not. But it still one of my biggest pet peeves. Put down your mother f____ing phone for one G_d damn minute and pay attention to the road. If someone causes an accident with me while texting and it doesn't kill me they better pray to God that I get pinned in my truck and can't get out until after the police are there.
