I havent seen to many Cinci area bands . St X played us up here years ago and they had boy cheerleaders but no band . Middletown played us a few years back they brought a nice crowd but no band . Watterson from Columbus played us a few years back and I dont think they brought a band . a few thousand fans though. Who are the better bands down that way "Cinci"

Louisville and Massillon have great bands. Our band is ok, but most of the band parents take up space at the game and don't even pay attention to the game or cheer for the team. I think that they should have their own section at the game, and possibly their own thread on this site! This is for football/sports.

I kind of see that with other teams . You have a seperation . Steubenville band interacts with the football team ,because we consider them part of the team . We really do . They mean alot to the football players . They are not treated as a stereo typical "band geek" like you see in so many bubble gum movies . Our band is cool ,and always has been .

My wife was in the Salem band in the late 70 - early 80's. She has pictures of them performing script Ohio. They had a ton of members.
I have to second the Hudson Swing Band. They are fun to watch.
The best band in Columbus is Grove City. However, I don't know what they are like after the program was discontinued for a year.

Oh I forgot, they have the best goalposts also. If you dont believe me just ask Thinthickbigred.

I almost forgot the most important thing of all. They also have the best Alumni Center even though it's bankrupting the county.

BTW, Edison was invited to play a game at Heinz Field, does that make them a great football team??

BTW ,same could be said about Big Red marching at 2 Presidential Inaugurations. Does that make them a great band?? I've watched the Inauguration parade many times. Some bands looked and sounded great, both other bands didn't belong there. Maybe Doug Applegate got Big Red's band to march as a political favor. Wouldn't surprise me a bit.

Big Red band was the first to do those dance routines along time ago .They wowed everybody in the stands . I am extremly proud to say yep we got the best football team in the OVAC and the best band to go along with it . Maybe alot of it has to do with our fight songs but Ive known alot of Central people that would get fired up when the Red band would be doing pregame . Let me put it this way Northwestern may have a great technical band and they march and play their halftime music really well . But Ohio state band takes the field and the whole stadium awakens up We are Ohio state and you guys are Indiana . or northwestern or whatever . Ask football players it is they who the band ultimitly plays for

My kids got back from the Steeler game and had a blast. Hats off to IC for getting the invite to play in the game. Gotta tip my hat to the band directors at the highschool and the gradeschool, for building such a huge, talented band. Enjoyed all the text while they were there, with the blow by blow details.

Way to go ICHS, for a job well done and another great performance. You guys earned it and deserved it.

Very small school and probably underappreciated but I was very impressed by Southington Chalker's band/halftime show. They had maybe 10-15 kids in the band but one was sitting at a drum kit and another one or two were on bass & electric guitar. They did "Enter Sandman" by Metallica and a Ramones tune. Best HS band I've seen in the last 7-8 years.

I have no aliance with IC or Big Red.. but when it comes to their bands.. I would pick IC.
Big Red band is good, but IC is above and beyond.
It cracks me up that SOME Big Red people think that because their announcer says: The Best Band In the Land, they automatically think it's true! HA

Northwestern's announcer does somthing similar with their band, it goes over great with the visiting Buckeye fans. :)

That's what I enjoyed about the BR band when I saw them for the first time at a playoff game last year. You could tell that the band was really into what they were doing. They stood and played on the field behind the team while they were warming up. It was very entertaining and even got me fired up even though I was supporting the opposing team. A lot of schools and directors could learn a few things from the way BR incorporates their band into the Friday night experience.
