Just joking Dover, I have been under the impression that Massillon had the first HS band ever since I can remember, I guess I could be wrong....No, really I could be.

Conneaut was modeled after the Ohio University band and did a GREAT job of it back in the day. However, a few band directors later, and they are falling off. My girlfriend played for the Conneaut band in their hay-day and is saddened to see them get to where they are now.

Creek's band is by far the best in the valley! Other bands are good and deserve recognition, but only Creek's stands alone, meaning they go places without the football team. Creek's band has been invited to play in Disney World, Dollywood, Chicago, and, of course, Heinz Field for the Pittsburgh Steelers. When any other band can hang those stats on their wall, then we'll talk!

"by far the best" hehehe I beg to differ . While your bands acomplishments are noetworthy
and deserve there due . I remember Wintersville band going places way back in the day . I dont watch band competitions . My guess is its all timing and robotics and flag waving and things of that nature . I know we have better fight songs than you guys do for sure and I know that when our band comes into the stadium they get my blood rising . IC band does not have that effect on me . Nope Big Red band is the best no doubt . Ask the football players.

Massillons band was fun to watch . They are another football type band . Steub Central used to have a huge band and they actually have one of the best HS fight songs I have ever heard . Its better than most college fight songs and it was written by one of there own .

Not saying they are the best band but for a small band Liberty Center Tiger band was neat. When I lived there in the mid 90s they used to do this head chopper thing with the trombone players that really got the crowd going.

Do you understand was a false dichotomy is? Well this is one! You're assuming Creek's band is invited to these places because they're the best, while ignoring a host, and quite possibly actual, reasons as to why Indian Creek is invited to these places. It could be that Indian Creek is invited to these places because someone in the administration has the required contacts to get the band invited.
Now, don't get me wrong, I believe Indian Creek has a very good band, hell I'll even say a great band, but I think it's a little much to assume that just because they were invited to these various events they're the best or "...stands alone..."

skank;501514 wrote:The original HS performing band....Yes, that's right, THE ORIGINAL HS BAND. The Massillon Tiger Swing Band. Nobody else compares. In the early thirties, Paul Brown got together with George 'Red' Bird, the band director at Massillon HS and decided that at halftime of these games, they needed to do something to keep the fans busy, hence the original HS performing band. At EVERY halftime, they perform, Fanfare, Tiger Rag & Carry On, something they have done at every game since 1938, it was performed at halftime during the Red Bird era, then changed to pregame, and recently, moved back to halftime.
I read this claim before and think it is wrong, since I have photos of the Steubenville High School band playing at halftime of a Big Red game before Paul Brown was the coach at Massillon.

Big Red's Band represented Ohio in 2 Presidential Inaugurations, when IC can hang that on their wall, then we'll talk.

BTW, Edison was invited to play a game at Heinz Field, does that make them a great football team??

The Hudson band has a sound you'll only hear at a stadium on Saturday afternoons. Just a wall of sound. Haven't seen anything that even comes close.

My favorite band(s) is Johnstown and Lakewood (Hebron). Johnstown is modeled after Ohio University. Lakewoods is very good. The have a Field Major (like the Ohio State University). Infact the current OSU Field Major is from Lakewood.

Funny man . hehehe No really I do think they have a great one . Although I remember when they had 150 band members and they marched down Sunset BLVD for every Central game . They used to have that drum major with that baton too . Man did they put the wood to us back then . But we always said we still had the best band . They put on some good shows in front of 10k every year.

You need to get to other parts of the state. Two powerhouse areas in particular are Columbus and Dayton. The top bands from those towns can give anyone in the state or the country for that matter a run for their money.

I never knew that about the inaugurations. Were they recent?

And Edison did play at Heinz Field FOR THEIR OWN FOOTBALL TEAM! Not that that wasn't an accomplishment, but Creek will be playing to a crowd of at least 50,000+ at one of the biggest rivalry games in the NFL. Big difference.
