Count me as one independent who is not going to line up as one of the droves to support true conservatives. I'm not alone either there. Moderates will never support true conservatives just like they will never support true liberalism.

Obama garnered a large portion of his votes from people from affluent suburbs who generally vote democrat due to their "good intentions". They got swept up with Bush Fatigue, Hope & Change and the desire to make history by voting a black man into office. These individuals in their daily lives are white collar professionals and skilled workers. When pressed, they will tell you they are "economically conservative/socially liberal". That is code word for they believe in limited government but also approve of gay marriage and some limited affirmative action. They do not want to be lumped into bed with evangelical white christians and Conservatives.

This time away, as MB pointed out, Obama has pissed away the good will he had. They are no longer angry at GWB because that moment has passed and now the Democrat Congress and President Obama have hit them where it hurts--- their pocket book. These are the people who come out to vote (along with Seniors) on a consistent basis and I think a message will be sent first here in November just to let everyone how unhappy they are.

Finally, in 2012 the Republicans will not run Palin or someone like her for president. On the other hand, they will not run a RINO like Lindsey Graham either. I could see someone like Newt on the ticket as a VP though.

The Republicans tried the most centrist moderate candidate they've ever nominated in my lifetime in 2008. So, to nominate Lindsey Grahamnesty, would be a certain repeat performance. He really needs to drop the "R" after his name.

I've been touting NJ's Christie as often as I can. He's the real deal, doesn't take crap from anyone-including Republicans, has a plan, implements his plan, doesn't mind stepping on socialist's toes, stands up to unions, won't be shoved around by hoodlum gangsters, and means what he says. He's no waffler, by any stretch. He's a real leader that doesn't need a teleprompter to deliver a message because he BELIEVES what he says, not what he's told to say. People will line up behind him and push him to run, IMO.

christie should run because hes a one term governor. he cant even fill out a form right to get money for schools.hes good at cutting everything and then jacking up the prices of everything like public transportation.

Christie is a possibility. I'm also thinking Arizona Governor Jan Brewer would be great except her age may be an issue.

Palin will not be the Republican nominee. I like her but she'll fall short of being the front-runner.

Independents and moderates could easily get behind a "true" conservative. One that espouses a limited federal government, balanced budgets, aggressively dealing with the national debt, and maintaining a strong national defense. Most Americans are on board with with these principles. A true conservative leader who could articulate what it would cost all Americans to do their part to secure that this nation will be stable for our future generations, would easily earn the support of most Americans.

The thing that screws many people up is there are a lot of politicians running around out there calling themselves conservative in order to get elected, then governing just the opposite. THEY ARE NOT TRUE CONSERVATIVES. They are out there poisoning the waters, only with a different type of big government poison.

These polls don't mean squat. If Obama can energize the economy and get people back to work, he will win. If he doesn't, Mickey Mouse could beat him.
