And there are multiple layers of publik and private assistance available to Amerika's "poor" as well.

America's "poor" are well fed, well clothed, receive free medical care from the finest health care system in the world, and can have shelter IF they are inclined to use it.

If anyone in the United States is starving or homeless it's because THEY choose it. It's certainly not because those eeeeeevil conservatives, Repubs, and rich people are insensitive to their needs.

Nor is it because we aren't paying enough of our "fair share."

In the case of natural disaster that temporarily removes these basics for some of our citizens. Where they have need they are at the top of the list above others in need in this world. For me it would likely come in the form of a personal donation of labor rather than in the form of donating a basic material need.
My "in general" statement was about conservatives believing that the government should be concerned with our citizens instead of others. So as far as government anti-poverty programs the situations in Africa for example wouldn't really be relevant.

I think that's an accurate assumption and I don't think it makes conservatives look bad or evviiiilll or anything. In hindsight if I have to use three posts to clarify what I said I probably didn't communicate very effectively.

I don't think "choose" is a very good description because it sort of implies a considered choice to be poor. I don't think that's true for most poor people. I think it's lack of considered choices, addictions, illnesses that make most people poor.

I thought this was interesting considering the topic at hand. The Brooking institute came out with new research on poverty in America. According to them. Extreme Poverty is real in America and on the rise. Now sure, we have social safety nets and charities that prevent genuine famine and starvation like what is going on in Eastern Africa but that does not mean the suffering is not real.

I doubt that the 600,000 or so homeless people choose to live that way. Come on man. Time to retract that idiotic statement.

He is talking about homeless people having access to shelters. If any of those 600,000 are without a roof over their head it is by choice.

The Dems are racists, they oppose Cain's policies because he is black. We need to stop this racism in america, it's about time we elected a president based upon what he knows rather than the color of his skin.

Step up and fight the racist Democrats. The Dems will fight his policies, because he is black.

Thank you. It is by their choice. I will admit that some homeless have mental disorders and cannot make rational decisions, but most can find public or private shelter if they truly want it.

That is correct. This is a common error. The Bible has no such passage in either the Old or New Testaments. Carney needs to STFU.
