People also need to get a clue. I've broken nearly every law there is and never spent a second in jail, never even been arrested. People need to learn how to buck the system and also to pick there battles. I will continue to break laws, but refuse to let the cops and the state abuse their authority with me. In other words, I win. You lose.

I still think most cops (90%+) are good, solid people who are just doing their job. But it is undeniable that a certain segment of the population that is power-hungry gravitates toward police work (or any other para-military group). Why do you think so many serial killers are ex-cops, ex-military, etc.? It's not just random luck. It's that a certain undesirable segment of the population is drawn to the profession, which tends to make the rest of the good cops look bad.
Police abuse occurs constantly. The advent of cell phone videotaping uncovers more and more each day. While I generally agree that you should be polite to officers and comply with their reasonable requests, I don't think you should unquestioningly do everything they ask. That's how all sorts of terrible things end up happening.
