Considering the team is from a group called "Noah's Ark Ministries International," and they are referred to as "evangelical explorers," i'm going to reserve judgement until i hear more about it...but still, an interesting find.

I found it interesting that they are using carbon dating to help verify the claim, when Christian groups also criticize carbon dating when it is used to dispute claims made in the Bible and the like...

But, Jmog can probably talk more about that then i can.

Didn't read that article but probably didn't find it. Noah's Ark is just a story. That more than likely never happened.

Unfortunately, none of the cool ones like unicorns, dragons and philosoraptors.

Apparently another victim of the dickish Old Testament god's hatred of people AND animals asking questions...

So along with the story they post a pic of some dude in some sort of wooden room/box whatever?? I would think that if you think you found Noah's Arc there would be more photos that would possibly lead one to believe they are in or on or at a boat maybe??? Its just a story!

Not buying it, but interesting find. I will be interested to see what happens when they fully excavate the find.

Very interesting. I wholly believe what is in the Bible about the event of Noah and his ark is true. However, it being so long ago, I'd think any wooden structure would be gone by now... rotted, etc. But it's still interesting to read.

From the article:
The group claims that carbon dating proves the relics are 4,800 years old, meaning they date to around the same time the ark was said to be afloat.
Wait a minute..I thought most evangelicals were against carbon dating? Or do they accept carbon dating that would show the earth is millions of years old?

Carbon dating, as I've said many times, is a fine tool for up to about 25,000 years, after that its shady, after 50,000 years is crap.

Read above...C14 dating is impossible to use for anything older than 50,000 years and is bad for anything older than about 25k years.

I read a book many years ago where a mountain climbing group found the Ark. It was perched atop some mountains in what was the time Soviet controlled Russia and due to political reasons they were unable to retrieve it. The book contained aerial views of the Ark.

The Ark was preserved due to the extreme sub zero climate it was resting in.

My conclusion is that either it was found years ago and this group is claiming credit for it or this whole recent episode is a farce

You believe that every animal on Earth was on a 400 ft. long Ark? I have beachfront property in Arizona for sale if you are interested.

I have a problem with any group of explorers, scientists, researchers, etc, that go out looking for something. Because, if they look hard enough they will begin to think they've found it. Go ask Ponce de Leon about that one.

So they found a boat?

They do know that Noah's Ark is like a fairy tale, right? A metaphor. Like everything else in the bible.

I was really into a girl one time and we were getting rather quasi-serious, and then she asked me about the Bible and more importantly evolution. She said evolution is a farce and the earth is only 10,000. So I said that is ridiculous and asked her "So what happened to the dinosaurs?" Her response was laughable, "Noah left them off the boat." I expected a girl with a 3.8 GPA in veterinary medicine to be a bit smarter than that.

I digress, it'd be cool if they found the boat. I'm not saying it never happened. But I think you're an idiot if you think every animal on the planet fit on a 400-foot boat for such a lengthy period.

No way. But if it really is a boat I am interested to see what boat, and how the fuck it got into a mountain in Turkey.

Two things to consider here.

1) My understanding of the original language of Genesis is that "two of every kind of animal" refers not to species, but to genus. To use an example from the modern world, it wouldn't be "take two Dobermans, two Rottweilers, two pugs, two English bulldogs, etc", it would be "take two dogs", which could mean dogs, wolves, or anything along those same lines.

2) Prevailing scientific theory holds that there was an event roughly 70,000 years ago called the Toba catastrophe. Basically, it was a massive volcanic eruption that wiped out all but roughly 2,000 humans worldwide (believed to be confined to a small area of Africa). If you consider that this would mean that the entire world's population is derived from this, both in terms of genetics and in terms of a resulting diaspora after the population was restored, it certainly wouldn't be unreasonable to speculate that a bottleneck in animal population could have taken place 6,000 years ago and still see as widespread of a population as there is today. Animals have much shorter lifespans, but also procreate much more frequently as a result of reaching sexual maturity earlier and shorter gestational periods.
