Heard a hot taek from a co-worker today...

Toronto wants to rebuild.  They take Kawhi on to make them better, yes... but if they want to trade for some young talent some time this season, you have a better bargaining chip with Kawhi (perhaps LA?)  I don't know if I see that, though.

I don't think that's a hot take at all. Toronto could definitely pit the two LA's against each other to bid for Kawhi.

If he goes to the Clips, he could still just walk after the season is over, so the Clips (or any team he doesn't want to play for [bitch]), would be a lot more hesitant in the trade to begin with.

Yeah, I heard the same take and this is why I don't buy it.  The Clippers have everything to lose in this situation.  I doubt Kawhi agrees to sign long term with the Clips.

Kawhi has said he would like to play for either LA teams. To me that says he would sign long term with either.

Yeah I know he said that, but I have a hard time believing he would be willing to sign a long term deal, when the lakers are set up better to help him win a title.  Maybe he doesn't give a fuck and just wants to be in LA, but I tend to lean that he would not agree to sign a long term deal with the Clips.

If he does, then it makes sense for Toronto to use him as a auction to help their rebuilding.  If not, I think Toronto made the wrong move trading for him.
