I’m not even sure I’ve ever seen this word.

I've seen it.  Don't believe I've ever used it.  Didn't come to me right away - I tried a few other words, one of which WAS an actual word but not in their dictionary.

Being a history teacher, I knew this word from the Gold Rush days.  The miners would go to them for testing to see if their find was real.
