There have been 19 teams who have had both the CYA and MVP. 18 of them have finished in first. The exception is the 1962 Dodgers who won 102 games and finished second.

Sorry I should have read more carefully. The 19 times is with different players winning each award. It would be interesting to look at the finishes if you also count pitchers doubling up.

I wonder if Bieber will take any MVP votes away from Ramirez like teammates sometimes do.

Gotcha. That’s actually pretty incredible it’s happened that often. I think Bieber is a shoe-in for CYA, and have a sneaky feeling he finishes higher than José in MVP — but neither wins it.

If we win today, we would be only one game behind the White Sox and own the tie-breaker. If we lose, we are pretty much locked into the 7-seed. If we finished in second, we will be the 4 or 5-seed. The 7-seed would have us playing the A's, Twins, or White Sox. The 4 or 5- seed would have us playing the Yankees. These are based upon likely outcomes over the weekend. If there were some unlikely sweeps, things could get shuffled around.

Trivia: I don’t believe I’ve ever witnessed three straight pinch hits. That’s got to be at least a club record and maybe more.
