It was a joke playing off BRF's sliced bread.

Most modern technology wasn't around (VCR's, cell phones, wide screen TV's, etc, etc) when I was born. Crap, the first wide screen TV I owned had wheels on the bottom and was this huge boxy thing that probably weighed 500+ lbs.

oh.....to stay on topic.......

Trains were the main source of distance travel.  And there was no such thing as a rocket in space carrying people.

Disposable diapers come to mind. 

When our first son arrived and my mother would babysit  him, she'd sigh and say "These would have made my life a lot easier back when you were born!"
