The thing that sets Indiana apart from those others, it does not appear to be resigned to a single run. Its already 2 years for Indiana, and about to be 3 by all indications.

I also will push back on Indiana building thru the transfer portal (I consider JMU transfers to be HS recruits for Cignetti, not transfers).

He did have a good amount of transfers too. But who will be their qb next year?

Josh Hoover coming back home (committed to IU before going elsewhere).

I posted this somewhere else, but it highlights a little bit more of how this was less mercenary than people were originally giving credit for.

OFFENSE:

  • Mendoza - Transfer from Cal
  • Cooper - IU out of HS
  • Sarratt - JMU
  • Becker - IU out of HS
  • Nowakowski - Transfer from Wisconsin
  • Hemby - Transfer from Maryland
  • Black - JMU
  • Martin - IU out of HS
  • Smith - IU out of HS
  • Lynch - IU out of HS
  • Benson - IU out of HS
  • Drew Evans - Walk-on at Wisconsin. Transferred to IU in 2023 (3 years with IU)
  • Ajani - IU out of HS
  • Coogan - Transfer from ND

DEFENSE:

  • Landino - IU out of HS
  • Kamara - JMU
  • Tucker - IU out of HS
  • Wyatt - Transfer from Maryland
  • Ndukwe - IU out of HS
  • Daley - Transfer from Kent State
  • Jones - IU out of HS
  • Fisher - JMU
  • Hardy - IU out of HS
  • Baldwin - IU out of HS
  • Ferrall - IU out of HS
  • Moore - IU out of HS
  • Ponds - JMU
  • Boykin - Transfer from NCST
  • Sharpe - IU out of HS
  • Williams - Transfer out of Clemson (3 yrs with IU)

Out of 30 players who contributed to the season, 16 are direct IU recruits. 2 more have 3 years in the program. 5 more JMU kids. Thats 23/30, so 7 "true" transfers (and Daley replaced Wyatt due to injury).  Yes, Mendoza is the big one, and the Heisman winner. But that doesn't seem radically different than most teams may have the last decade or so.
