Off topic but there's been another plane crash into a row of townhouses. Apparently this was a medvac plane.

Not that it could get any more sad, but 2 pilots, 2 doctors, a pediatric patient and their guardian.
I've said before, you'll never get me on a small plane or helicopter. Although I think the vast majority of those crashes are non-professional pilots making errors, yesterday aside commercial airliners in the US almost never crash.

Here might be a shocker, but I agree with ptown’s post here AND I also agree with a lot of the quoted post of Gblock’s.
I think DEI is trash, but the DEI argument is going to jump the shark soon too if it’s used so loosely. I also don’t think black men benefited much from DEI. The biggest beneficiaries of DEI are/were women, especially white women.

This is definitely true. I would include all women, black, POC, and white.
Had a Romanian woman work in our group, got all kinds of promotions and even dropped the hard “r” N word at a business dinner but didn’t get fired because she was a woman and threatened to get a lawyer.
The HR guy that didn’t fire her was an African American and even he was “afraid” of the white Romanian woman lawyering up.
Every other person at the table were white guys and we all 100% know we would have been fired.
Removing trumps dumb shit from the other day and strickly speaking of DEI. I dont like it for the simple reason that it ends up doing more harm than good specifically speaking for black people. As has been stated, just based on population numbers, most of these jobs dont even go to black people, but we get to be the poster child for it. Now any person in any job who probably had to work harder than most of their peers to get where they are, are now defaulted to "must be DEI hire". You have people like charlie kirk yesterday saying if he gets on a plane and sees a black pilot he doesnt want to get on for example.
So while i think the intentions are good, and i think companies who have a diverse workforce and leadership that has multiple perspectives and backgrounds will do better than companies who dont, i think it has been now demonized into well its lowering standards which isnt always the case. I dont think this even is an idea that was created by black people or something that was necessarily wanted, similar to black history month or naming street after someone, or taking down confederate statues. What people have always wanted was a fair opportunity.
To add an off-beat path to the above discussion is something that people never seem to consider. What if... now hear me out... but what if somebody, or groups of people, just aren't that interested in certain careers or niches in the job market?
If somebody in a DEI department doesn't think that there is enough "representation" in a certain category, what then? You can't force people to learn a trade or career path if they don't want to do it. Add into this is the regional effect. Obviously some areas are more populated than others, and a lot of people just aren't interested in moving away from their hometown. And incentive bonuses are often not enough to change people's ambition or current circumstances. Lots of other differing factors too. So there is a whole host and combinations of reasons why there may or may not be a quota of people to do a thing. Trying to force it on everybody had the opposite outcome than was expected.
But now that DEI is it's own industry that people are making good money pushing it, it's going to have bitter battles because that's their income and they won't want to give up what pays their rent or buys their food.
It's a hell of a mess! Unforseen consequences.
To continue along the lines of this discussion I watched this the other day. It made me think about all sorts of things.
Some of you probably remember me talking about and referring to a podcaster called Sabby Sabs. She's a far left black activist, ADOS and works at the Revolutionary Blackout Network.(RBN). In this video I'm going to post below, she talks about the history of feminism and how it affected the black community. I couldn't help but realize that she is flat out saying that feminism hurt the civil rights movement and how. It doesn't matter if you believe or agree with her points because ultimately, she outright says the same things that people like Ben Shapiro have been saying all along. The only difference her conclusion has with Shapiro's is the origin of the lens she looks through.

Happy tariffs day everyone.

lol, the place where I work, the hours that I work (which I'm still trying to get used to the new hours) doesn't leave me with a lot of time to go riding anymore. My days and nights are very different from yours

Hey, I for one am looking forward to paying more for stuff despite hearing about how the economy was a major reason for how the election went the way that it did!
How much of a tariff gets passed onto the consumer depends on several factors. For example, tariffs on Colombian coffee would be mostly absorbed by the producer as coffee from other countries isn't subject to tariffs and would have a cost advantage. You may pay more for your favorite Colombian coffee, but prices of other coffees should remain unchanged.
People promoting high inflation from Trump's policies might end-up looking like hyperbolic overreaction from the left again. Before the election, I saw economists say his policies would add around 1% inflation. Although I think he's since proposed broader tariffs.
1% would only be painful if other factors drive other core inflation higher than the 2% fed target. The biggest pain, however, would be if it keeps overall inflation closer to 3%, the fed doesn't lower interest rates and mortgages prices remain high (though current rates are still a big below historical averages).
Truthfully, the artificially low interest rates we had for 15 years post-financial crisis weren't healthy. That's REALLY tough for savers and people living on fixed incomes where you had to be in riskier equities to get a decent return.
Y’all need to listen to the orange man.
Tarrifs don’t raise prices!

Largely agree. Interest rates aren't going down for at least another quarter, maybe more.
Also, I think prices themselves are not going down. So, while prices may not spike or increase a lot, they are not decreasing.
That does contradict a big reason why people voted for Trump this time around. Will be interesting to see how much support Trump loses if these go on.
Any one following Musk DOGE?
It does seem like he is getting access to a lot of information, like the Treasury system, that a lot of people should not have access to.
He is posting he wants to cut Billions a day and was the one that sent put emails go federal employees that offered to "buy them out"
I understand the need to cut the fat,but I'm struggling to find the legal and Constitutional authority that Musk has right now.
It seems this is not what DOGE was supposed to be from the EO. It is far was a panel that recommends cuts to Congress.

I don't know. The Trump supporters on my Facebook will just deflect and point out other things that they think are "good". Every now and then I will put up a meme poking fun at Trump and they get super pissed. Sometimes even hitting me up on Messenger asking why I'm making fun of them and when I tell them I'm not, that I'm making fun of Trump, they will say something along the lines of "yeah right".
It's just like dealing with the Dems, they take any jab at who they voted for as a personal affront. You just can't win with either side 🤷♀️

Isn't Vivek Ramaseamy out? Is it just Elon Musk now or are there others?

Yeah. That was a disagreement
Vivek wanted to go the Congressional route, Musk, the current.
That lead to Vivek wanting to leave and seek OH gov.
Well, prices never go back down. That's deflation, and it's economically destructive. I'm not sure people really expected prices to go down, they just didn't like the inflation spike Biden gave them.
Markets are down about 1% today. That's a much bigger hit than 1% inflation. That this will slow growth is a much bigger impact than 1% inflation. As usual, the uninformed media will whine about the wrong thing, and end-up being viewed as crying wolf over another nothingburger.
I know the WHO messed up the pandemic investigation, but seems really dumb to withdraw. It's [only] about $1B a year, a lot of which goes to keeping a bunch of nasty stuff in Africa from exploding into a pandemic.
The timing is also poor given we are on the precipice of a bird flu pandemic. Which, for the last 20 years before Covid, was the big fear of the 1-in-100 year pandemic.
$40B, total, for USAID. Again, a lot of that money promotes global stability. There's probably plenty of waste, corruption and boondoggles but you can't throw out the baby with the bathwater. Of course, fair debate about just what the ROI on this really is, as most of those countries receiving aid still massively hate us, anyway.

Mexico tariffs appear to be paused now. Those seem like the more important ones than Canada.
