If you could golf full time (40+ hours a week)...

...how low do you think you could get your handicap?

For sake of argument, let's say you win $50 million and never have to work again. You decide you want to golf as a full time job. If you were able to put in 40 hours a week practicing/playing golf how good do you think you could get?

At my easy course….around scratch

I was a 1.9 handicap at age 19 with god awful clubs

I do feel playing a lot at a young age gives an advantage even though someone picks it up as an adult can catch up the amount played. Navigating your way around the course is pivotal to scoring.

I may be able to get into a 5-7 range tops.  I’m just not a good enough athlete to go much beyond that.

I am a 10.4 playing about 8-12 rounds a year total and going to the range (aside from warm-ups) maybe 1x a year. I could probably cut that in half pretty easily, but I am not sure I could get down below that. I miss too many 5' putts. I want to take a lesson, because on my drives, I am too inconsistent atm with my setup stance. I can hit it 250 regularly, and 275 when I catch it well. Averages i probably 260. But I hat a natural fade, and want to hit a draw, and my setup the last year to accommodate that has killed me. Straight (aimed left for the draw), draw perfect, overcooked hook. And I cant figure out what it is. But I want that draw so that I can shape my drives either direction.

Maybe once I got down to a 5-6, I could start taking lessons and that would help drastically.

I’m certain I could get to single digits (currently 17ish, lowest was 14ish a few years ago when I played more often). My biggest issue is inconsistency with my swing, which I’m sure I could improve considerably with that much practice. When it’s good, it’s really good. If I can get off the tee my scores are usually good. My putting is usually good, and has been especially good this year.

What do you all use to track your handicaps?

I haven’t renewed yet this year but I went directly thru ghin last year. I used The Grint for a few years before that.

In the prehistoric age we’d sign our scorecard for our 18 hole rounds and put it into a big wooden box and each month the club shop would open box and send off cards and each month we’d have a new USGA handicap card

Wondering if my old wallet doesn’t have one still in there

I was a 9-10 back about 20 years ago - private club; could've gotten to 4-5 with a lot more play, not sure it would have gotten better than that.?  Have not played much in the last 15 years, miss it, and hope to get back to it in the not-too-distant future.
