bigdaddy, when you go online, are you actually able to choose to give rides based on location of pickup and destination, or does it automatically assign you a ride and you have to pick them up regardless?

You can put in a location and it will only give you rides in that direction. If you don't, then you will get whatever is closest to you at the time and if you don't accept the ride, I think it hurts you.

Ok, I'm glad I can at least limit the direction I am willing to travel.

If the guy/gal isn't a dick, I add in a couple of bucks. I've taken quite a few minimum fares and I feel guilty about using the person's time when they could have gotten a better fare so I usually throw them $5 extra on one of those.

I'm working a beerfest on Friday night so I won't be able to drive, but I'm contemplating driving on Saturday night to take all the drunks home.

I wonder how many people still assume “the tip is included”, as Uber kind of referenced this early on. It was a way to get more users away from Cabs.

Watch out for power zones. If you plan to go all over Cincinnati, there should be zones where you make extra money for runs.

Which is better, Uber or Lyft?

There's really no difference. I pick whichever one sends me the better discount code.

I know it took me a while to figure it out.

This is what 80 percent of the people I have picked up have said. I've given 67 rides so far and Uber usually comes up every time. A few of the people don't care for the local Uber drivers, so they only use Lyft but a lot of the people have said they use whichever finds them a ride quicker.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I was in one that wasn’t also the other.

Considering they are personal vehicles this would depend on the driver. I've ridden in some ratty cars through Uber.

I drive in Cleveland,

For some reason I remember people by attributing where they live and thought you lived quite a distance from Cleveland

50 miles. I live in a rural area. The closest big area is Sandusky and Lyft is still relatively unknown out here. I know, it's crazy to drive 50 miles to do it, but with the power zones, it's ok, only on weekends though.
