Sure, nothing is going to stop them if they're hellbent on searching. That doesn't mean it's a legal search.

In that case, state you do not consent to any searches and then lawyer up.

But it seems like cops are more likely to target those that likely don't know their rights, and/or don't have the ability to get a decent lawyer to fight it in court.

So you’re driving home drunk. You do nothing wrong (driving wise), but a cop pulls you over because you don’t have a front license plate. He smells booze on you, and issues you a DUI. Do you think a lawyer is going to get you out of the DUI because “the law” states that they can’t pull you over strictly because of the front license plate?

It's a fair point, and probably not, but it's a little different than my scenario of a car search.

I guess it depends on how high you blow, too. Lawyers get DUI knocked down to reckless op all the time.
