I watched the latest episode of Curb and still had caption on. I hated it and turned them back off.

I cannot imagine trying to watch that show with captions. Or anything that Sorkin writes.

I would have paid for them during Dune 2. Felt like a missed some.

We were on vacation for a week and my wife’s nephew and fiancé house sat for us. When we returned 2 of our tv had closed captioning on

I've kept subtitles on. I hate myself.

I don't use subtitles, but sometimes I think about it because video or sound effects muffle it so much (there have been numerous articles on this - you're hearing IS NOT going bad).

What I have done is, with surround audio, I've increased the center channel decibels, which is usually mostly just voices.  I've never calibrated it, but my AVR also has something like "dynamic volume modulation" where I think you can set it to further differentiate the voices.

My AVR also has a useful setting to cap the max volume, whichcomes in handy for those annoying commercials that blast you out of the room (talk about ineffective laws - Congress addressed this but commercials are allowed to go to something like the peak volume, so for the entire 30-second spot you end up at "explosion" sound levels).
