Point in case: Earl Smith "Shhhhh"ing the crowd today when his team was up 9 ... IN THE SECOND QUARTER... during a game IN FEBRUARY.

He then proceeded to miss every FG he attempted in the second half.

Think about what you're typing.

You guys blew not one, but TWO, inbounds passes during the home stretch of a game.

And you guys didn't even blow them... YOU FAILED TO GET THE BALL TO ONE OF YOUR DUDES.

NOT ONCE, BUT TWICE. IN THE SAME SERIES.

With the Jazz, Nuggets and the improved Mavericks and Suns, I serioudly doubt the Lakers make it to the finals this year. It takes some luck...and to make it 3 straight years would be a fluke.

And you said we're making the same mistakes...Care to watch that game again and tell me where we did that today? ;)

Are you talking about bone-headed plays down the stretch?

- Melo's 5th foul on a driving Kobe Bryant. Completely unacceptable. Then, turning around and banging with Artest on the offensive end. (It's a bad call, but still---gotta know the situation).

- Then, even before Melo fouled off, how about Chauncey Billups jacking up 3's at a rather impressive rate? How many dumb shots in general were jacked during those last 5 minutes? Chauncey clearly thinks he's the Nuggets go to man in crunch time--which is utterly appalling, and I can't wait until he does it in May.

- Did George Karl ever do anything but lean up against the scorer's table with his hand in his pocket and a disgruntled look on his face?

- It was just your typical Nuggets game. You could see the Nuggets collapse coming from a mile away. They will give away 1-2 games like that a series (and it cost them last year).

...........

And Wedge, how in the hell would getting to the Finals three years in a row be a fluke?

This was before today's game...
So far this season, the Nuggets have gone 24-9 against teams with winning records — as opposed to just 14-10 against teams with sub-.500 records. Denver is 7-1 against their division-leading counterparts: Boston (1-0), Cleveland (2-0), Orlando (1-0), Dallas (1-1) and the Lakers (2-0).
14-10 against losing teams should be alarming to any Nuggets fan. They're not that far off of the Lakers in terms of the #1 seed in the west.

They're giving away games to inferior opponents that will cost them home court in the playoffs. And considering Jackson has never lost a series in which his team has lead 1-0, how big is that first game being in LA or Denver? (Assuming the Nuggets make it that far, which they will probably get beat by the Zombie Sonics or the Mavericks).

Considering they have never won shit (save for Chauncey's one bullshit title), it just shows you they really have no idea what goes in to winning a championship. If the Lakers/Nuggets do meet in the playoffs, and it's in LA, just think about all the buster ass squads the Nuggets lost to during the year that cost them that home court.

Not only that, but as Chuck and a few others have pointed out, the Nuggets losing to teams with sub .500 records shows their lack of focus, which could be a bad thing come playoffs.

I think the law of averages will catch up to them. That's all. I really doubt that they make the finals this year. In fact, the odds are pretty much stacked against it happening..

Except for the fact, you know--the Lakers returned everybody from last year's Championship squad except for a guy they upgraded on with Ron Artest. They have the most talented roster in the NBA, can play and beat you in any way.

I mean, obviously, winning an NBA championship is pretty tough to do...but I mean... the Lakers have more than a puncher's chance.

Don't argue with him.. The law of averages and odds are NEVER wrong.

Of the teams you listed, only the Nuggets would have a real chance to defeat the Lakers and of the other 3 only Dallas could even make it a 6 game series. The Suns? Really? Both Phoenix and Utah would/will get blasted in a potential series with LA.

That's exactly what the Vegas oddsmakers were saying when they set the Cavs at 6 to 1 favorites over the Magic last year.

The Lakers have a great team....I just think they don't make it to the finals this year. In fact, I'd be pretty surprised if they do.

I hope you are right, Footwedge, because it's the only way they don't win it all. I will be rooting hard but I fear it will be of little consequence when Kobe banks in a three bank shot off of two players and a sparrow that somehow got trapped inside the arena. (While falling out of bounds with one hand taped behind his back, falling away from the hoop.)
