This may sound arrogant, but the Big Red fans expect at least three away playoff games every year in addition to the regular-season road trips. Gasoline, meals, and tickets cost money. In 2005, 2006, and 2008 Big Red played a total of seven away games. That's hard on the average fan's budget.

Continuing this same frame of thought, if and when Big Red gets into the ECOL, the away games will be a lot farther and a lot more costly. Last year Big Red fans had it easy. Three away games in the regular season and the farthest was only thirty miles. When my parents were still around and we were living in Steubenville, we would get a motel room for the night instead of making the trip back home on those long rides. We sometimes did that when Big Red played in Canton or in Columbus at playoffs games in the 1980's. We had a good time, but the trips were expensive.

Nothing against you..but that could be the dumbest explanation of why fans are so hard up on having 7 or 8 home games that I have ever heard. Doesn't matter what you 'expect' for the postseason..every one has away games for the post season. Not just Big Red. That shouldn't take any consideration into what your regular season schedule looks like.

There would be one trip over an hour and 45 minutes long..that's not a big deal to travel to a football game.

How do you figure in my dreams? Every team you play after Week 11 has just as many away games in the post season as you up to that point. You can try to justify the post season in your reasoning all you want...but that's just dumb.

If you want to use that argument..I don't hear Mooney fans crying if they don't get 7 games a year..and they have the same expectations every year as Big Red. Matter of fact..the most home games they've had in the last 3 years..INCLUDING the post season..is 6 I believe?

It's not unfair to say you play 3 away games a year..look when the schedule comes out..and see how many away games there are on it..that will tell you how many..if it's 3..then it's 3..that's not a hard concept to grasp. Logan has played 28 games on the road since 2005...and our travel schedule is much more brutal. I guess we should be complaining then?

OF COURSE the fans have to pay for those things..that's not the school's responsibility..they don't make the schedule to cater to the fans..if you want to be a fan..that goes with the territory! That has nothing to do with a schedule.

I'm not one of the ones that whine cause Big Red has 7 or 8 home games a year..I could care less. If you can get them..great. We don't play Big Red..doesn't effect us one bit. It just cracks me up when they might not have that many..the fans whine and cry about it.

Thank god Big Red has a lot of home games.

I didn't say in your dreams, I said in their dreams, meaning the 95% of schools that don't make it to the playoffs or are one and done. They don't have to worry about playing three or four away games in the post season every year.

I'm not concerned about Mooney. If they want to break the backs of their fans with many long away trips, that's their business.

Big Red fans don't think that my comments were dumb. Even with our regular-season schedule, we are still road warriors.

You obviously don't know much about Big Red. Two years ago 3000 fans drove 150 miles to Columbus to watch Big Red play Watterson. We take that many to nearly every away game we play. When we play in the state finals, the whole city closes down and goes to the game.

The citizens of Steubenville (including the football fans) and the school have a very good relationship. There is a reason why the Steubenville Schools across the board have among the very finest facilities IN THE COUNTRY. This is not a lie nor is it an exaggeration. If you don't believe me, go to Steubenville some time and have a look. Everything is brand new and state-of-the-art.

The point is that the fans support the school and the school supports the fans (citizens). The fans want seven home games and the school gives them to us. Besides, the program makes a lot of money from all those home games. I have often heard it said that Big Red football pays for a math teacher.

The school has listened to the fans for as far back as I go (1962). I don't ever recall us playing fewer than seven home games. If other teams don't (or can't) do that, then that is their business.

We have only played more than 3 away games one time in 100 years...that was in 2002 I think, or somewhere around there.

It's just the way it has always been.

I remember Reno (our coach and former AD) telling us at a Booster meeting that we make more money playing a city school like Rayen or Cleve. South, than we would by playing anyone, including Massillon, in a home and home contract.

I have a legitimate question to ask of Dover people. If Big Red joins the ECOL, what's in it for Dover? Big Red won't win all the conference games in football, but we should dominate. Dover won't win the conference title like they have done in the past, and having Big Red there won't make getting into the playoffs any easier.

I have heard that Dover is one of Big Red's biggest supporters for getting into the league. Again, I ask why?

You are absolutely correct. The schedule is and has been about the money. True fans will get to the games home or away. I missed my first game this past season since 1961 and I used to work turns some of those years.
But, myself and the people I attend the games with love High School football; and that's the bottm line: the love of the game.

Yes as a tax payer I am sure I help pay for a few of your athletes while mommy and daddy cry about the steel factory closing. Instead of finding a job at McDonalds or Wendy's they live off my dime because those jobs are below them.


What does Dover gain from having Steubenville in the ECOL? A solid program in all sports and the last logical school to complete the big school division of the ECOL. Zanesville, Marietta, and Steubenville >>>>>> River View, Coshocton, and Meadowbrook. Many believe the lack of competition at the end of the season spells disaster for Dover in football come playoff time. No longer will that be a problem(if it really is the problem at all).

Our lives don't revolve around trophy cases that sit in our high school's lobby.

so fairwood let me get this straight... Big Red fans want/need 7 home games so they can afford to the games and bring money into the program? as you stated your program helps pay for a math teacher... so obvs you guys are making plenty of money.... so i ask you does your school have pay to play? I know that both the schools in which i'm linked to have pay to play... so for us "fans" and parents that have to pay for our kids to play its logical in your eyes that we have to play at your place so you can save money? what about the other programs in the area that are struggling to even field a team at times... are you so selfish that you wouldn't be willling to play one more away game a year so another program could make some extra cash and possibly help get the program more competitive?

I generally support the Big Red community but on this issue you guys (FWK in particular) are arrogant.

ps I don't care about typo's and what nots... this is a internet forum as long as you get my message thats all that matters...
