If your citizens were as concerned about the schools as our people, maybe you wouldn't complain so much.

Do do the Dover coaches, players, and community members want to win the ECOL? sure they do. But I believe at this point, after winning or sharing the league title for over the last decade (save a couple years), they would much rather start winning at a higher level in the post season. Obviously to do this, they feel they need to not only improve the non-conference schedule (which they have done for awhile already), but also improve the league in which they play in.

Our school district doesn't just skate by. If the citizens (including the Catholics) weren't so very concerned about the public schools in Steubenville, we wouldn't have outstanding teachers, state-of-the-art facilities, and a championship football team.

Getting back to the issue of playing seven or eight home games every year, the school is in a position to do this because Big Red football has been independent for many years. We have been able to schedule anyone we want, including good teams like Massillon, Ursuline, Poland, Watterson, and Woodland Hills. I don't know what will happen when we join the ECOL. We may have to play more road games if we want to continue to schedule tough OOC teams. Whatever happens, the fans will support the team and the school.

You want to know what will happen FWK.......NOTHING. The sky won't fall, the sun will rise and you won't stand in front of a death panel.

A road trip to Cambridge, Dover, Marietta, New Philadelphia, Zanesville is no big deal. Once we are in the ECOL. I hope we plan to start a KICKOFF CLASSIC or JAMBOREE. Big Red could still play week 1 on Thursday, while 2 games would be played on Saturday. Not many teams get to play in a stadium like ours. It would be an experience for them and a money maker for us.

We could do it week 2 as well with Catholic teams. St Vincent-St Mary, Bishop Watterson, Lake Catholic, Walsh Jesuit, Ursuline, Bishop Rosecrans, Newark Catholic, Wheeling Central Catholic WV.

4,000 to 5,000 steuby fans would enjoy 4 good games on back2back Saturdays at our stadium. That's not counting the other area fans. Plus the following of the teams in the games. It would sell out easy. $10.00 a ticket.

We could bring in teams like Sherwood, Good Counsel, Dematha, Loyola from MD. Woodland Hills, Pitts. Cent Cath, North Penn, Jefferson Hills, Liberty, Bethel Park, Gateway from PA. Inkster, Muskegon, East Grand Rapids, Rockford from MI. Teams from OH could be Maple Hts, Solon, Glenville, Canfield, Poland, Louisville, Boardman, Warren Harding. Just to name a few.

Or we could just keep it local or all OHIO games. Teams like Hubbard, Buckcry Local, Martins Ferry, Harrison Central, Coshocton etc.

When are we going to find out for sure if we are going to get in? I heard sometime in April, but that is only a rumor. And if we do get in, when will we start playing? 2012?

I talked to my cousin tonight on the phone. He is a Dover grad and still keeps up with them from his home in Texas just I try to keep up with Big Red. He had not heard the story that Big Red might join the conference. He was very enthusiastic about us joining. Dover people always want another chance of bumping off the Big Red!

We DO do it. This year we're playing three teams that made it to their state final last year and another that made it to the state semifinal game. We were also supposed to play Warren Harding, but they backed out on us.

I'll make a prediction. By 2012, Big Red will not play anyone from the OVAC because we will only want to play home-and-home against ECOL teams or powerhouses like Massillon. We may be down to six home games per season but we won't go below that.

Reno said on TV that Big Red and Massillon are trying to extend their series beyond 2010. That's good news. I hope we continue to play Massillon for a long time.

Me too, cause its only been a year since the mill closed... Yes you can still get those transfers, but Steubenville is dying. Good thing the mill in Weirton is still somewhat operational as well as many other surrounding towns. I don't know what Big red would do without them.

Funny stuff...considering the only team to beat Big Red in the last 70 scheduled games was "an out of state team"

Who cares who they play? Like I said before, if they played a bunch of out of state teams, then got beat in the first round of the playoffs, I could see giving them a hard time, but they don't, they actually prove they are the best in Ohio, when the time arrives. Save last year.

Inkster snapped our 68-game regular season winning streak last year and yet we put them right back on the schedule for this year. We're not afraid to play anybody. And if Massillon had beaten us last year, we would not have dropped them the way Dover did.

I would actually say the opposite about Inkster....if we would have won that game then they probably wouldn't be on the schedule for this year, but I know losses eat at Reno, so I'm sure he wants some redemption.

Then how do you explain Buffalo St. Joe's and O'Hara? We beat St. Joe's back in 2001 and O'Hara in 2007 and the two teams have been on our schedule ever since. Wheeling Park is another team that has never beaten us, but they are on our schedule every year.

We have built up a relationship with those other schools, but Inkster was just supposed to be a one year deal. Once Inkster gets their league situation figured out, they won't be back.

That's what people fail to realize about scheduling...most of it comes from building relationships with other coaches/ADs, and then they hear that so and so has an opening, then they work something out.

Yes, I do know that these relationships make a big difference. And it's a good thing that Big Red has such a good reputation. I remember the circumstances about how we started playing O'Hara. The O'Hara coach had lunch with the St. Joe's coach so they could talk about coming to Steubenville. The St. Joe's coach put in a good word for us and we have been playing O'Hara ever since.

Getting back to Big Red joining the ECOL, does anyone know when the league is going to vote on this? I heard that it would be sometime in April, but I never heard the exact date.
