1980 is a personal friend of mine and he was made aware of the possibility of CCHS joining but there's nothing in stone yet according to him.

As for the "crossover" game, this is exactly why I don't want CCHS in this league. Also, besides Rosecrans, we would be pitted against bigger schools, we can't sustain that type of schedule anymore. CCHS should be trying to schedule D6 and a few D5 schools only.

I would agree with that, and since 2004 Dover has mad an effort to improve their OOC schedule so that doesn't happen. New Phila on the other hand has not. Just by adding Zanesville and possibly Big Red isn't going to cause Dover to completely change their OOC scheduling. They might add in 1 "cupcake" into that mix. We all can't play powers like Wheeling Park, Wheeling Central, Indian Creek, East Liverpool, Morgantown, or Brooke every week.

The small and large division should help all schools involved with the league, with the possible exception of Coshocton, who enjoyed success while playing the larger schools in the ECOL. It will now be up to them to schedule comparable schools in their OOC slate.

Put any of those teams in the current ECOL and they would be beating most of the league.

Because "POWER" teams like Brooke and Wheeling Central will beat you. And while the rest of your ECOL POWERS struggle with the likes of East Liverpool and Indian Creek (Dover excluded).
One thing you need to remember ......it all ROLLS THROUGH DEATH VALLEY and Region 11.

Will they beat these teams 8 or 9 out of 10 times? Very possibly, and history shows that to be the case. But what teams do they not do that to? I think it would be good for some of the other bigger schools in the Eastern District to get a shot at Big Red every year and hopefully raise their programs closer to that level. Plus, until another Zach Collaros is walking the halls of that high school, you probably aren't going to beat Mooney or whichever parochial school has loaded up that year, so you might as well take a shot at winning some conference championships.

Dwight Macon beat Mooney in 08' 35-20 after Zach graduated. And MOW is right; we care about winning our region and then State. That's the diff between the schools that play in the ECOL and Big Red. Our goals.

Actually the score in 2008 with Macon at the helm was Steubenville over Mooney, 28-16. 35-20 was the score of the Mooney victory in 2007 over the Andrew Radakovich-led (and Macon-led!!) Red.

It is every teams goal to win a state championship.

I disagree..just b/c they aren't on that level...doesn't mean it's not a goal. I'm sure they would be happy winning the conference and making the playoffs..nothing wrong with that. But..to think that their goal is to win the conference and not a state title is ignorant, IMO. EVERY team's goal is to win a state championship. If they don't..and they just win the conference..no shame in that. They can still be happy about that, too. I'm just speaking from experience here as a fan of the Chiefs. Back to back 10-0 seasons, league champions six years straight, 34 game winning streak in our league, zero state championships. Do I wish we had one? Of course..and I know that's their goal every single year. But I'm still happy with the success that they've had despite not winning one.

The ECOL will meet next month to finalize the addition of Steubenville to the conference's upper division. No team as of yet has been added to the lower division. Indian Valley is still not sure what they want to do. Steubenville Catholic Central has not applied for admission to the conference.

I am hearing that Dover and New Philadelphia are leading the charge to admit Steubenville. And all the schools in the lower division have no problems with it, so I expect it to be just a formality.

Will be interesting to see who they try to get and who will apply to fill that 6th spot in the small school division. Will IV want to come back to a league that ignored their desire for expansion a few years ago and one where they struggled to compete (excluding baseball)? Would Ridgewood want to step up and play some bigger schools? I don't know much about them, but would Buckeye Trail be a good fit for the small division?

What about Steubenville Central? Probably a long shot but the ECOL can't wait for Indian Valley to make up thier minds! Trail I don't think would be a good fit they need to stay in the PVC in my opinion.

As I suspected, Steubenville Catholic would not and did not apply for entrance to this league and it makes sense. Other than Rosecrans, we would be facing an uphill battle playing against bigger schools on a regular basis. We can't afford to do that anymore, we just don't have the numbers. Our AD has done a very good job of transforming our schedule over the last three years to facing only D6 and D5 schools. There's still a couple of D4's in there but better than the meat grinder we normally played and that's not to say the new schedule isn't easy, most of these schools are of playoff caliber.

Agreed when your numbers shrink you have to play teams at your level......Especially in the valley the numbers are only going to get smaller.

So when would we start playing? 2011?

As soon as schedules can be worked out, but probably in 2012.

That leaves 5 games to schedule whomever we wish. I would assume that anything is within the realm of possibility.

That would only leave us one opening to play an OOC team home-and-home if we want to play 7 home games every year. Of Wheeling Park, Massillon, and Ursuline, two of them would have to go. I hope we keep Massillon.

If they join a league..I think you can probably forget about 7 home games a year. Is everyone from Steuby that hung up on playing that many home games? Lol

If all the rumors are correct, we will play eight home games this year. Yes, I guess you could say we're hung up on playing at least seven. We make a lot of money by playing home games and we don't want to give it up. Besides, our fans are spoiled. The only travelling they want to do is in the last four weeks of the playoffs.

Football is the main money maker for a lot of programs...I've just never heard a fan base worry about as many home games as Big Red fans do.
