You can absolutely ask for a better shot than that. Diebler is not an off the dribble shooter. He's a catch and shoot guy.

I'm fine with letting Buford attack, but once Diebler had it in the corner a timeout should have been called with 7-8 seconds left to set something up.

THIS! I can see why he wouldn't call a timeout after the miss shot because that way Purdue can't set up their defense. But after Buford's shot was blocked, that is when a timeout should have been called.

If your going to put this game on Diebler, you are either flat our ignorant about the game of basketball, or just a flat out hater.(and I know we have a few of them here).

The KEY in this game, once OSU got back in it, was about the 8 min mark when OSU had 3 possession to either tie or take the lead. It was 48-46 and they couldn't get over the hump. Purdue then went on a run to push it back to 8pts with under 5 min to go. During this time, Turner actually took 2/3 bad/long range shots. OSU had their opportunity to take the lead, get the crowd rocking and maybe go on a good run. They couldn't get over the hump.

Game doesn't surprise me to be honest. I didn't expect a first half that poor. But I didn't have a good feeling going into this. Purdue is MUCH BETTER then people think they are. We were lucky to win at their place to be honest.

And NO, I don't have a probem not calling a timeout. Its a coaches philosopophy. Some do, some don't. Bob Knight rarely called timeouts with clocks running down. For the very reason i stated, letting the defense get set. He said he had his plays already in. Often times in a scramble, something opens up. Just as it did for Diebler. He had a good look, probably better then what OSU would have had on a side out of bounds. It didn't go in.
If you had any clue, you would realize that wasn't why the game was where it was. YOu can't spot a team like Purdue a lead like that at half. Teams RARELY come back from deficits like that vs quality teams. Thats why you see it on ESPN highlights...doesn't happen often.

BTW, my "crap" that I post...well, go read my post on the first page about this game. My worst fears happened as I stated they couldn't for OSU to win.

OSU played like a pack of retarded cavemen in the first half and got it together in the 2nd half. The way OSU played in the 1st half, they had no business being in the game, I agree. But that still doesn't change the fact that OSU actually did come back, seized the momentum in front of the home crowd, and then let Purdue off the hook with some very impatient, ill-advised shots. It doesn't change the fact that I wish OSU would have ran a play following a TO with 8 seconds left to set up a catch and shoot situation for someone, Diebler or not. It doesn't change the fact about how pissed I am about the way Lauderdale and Lighty both crapped out tonight. It doesn't change the fact that tonight's game has really set OSU back as far as winning the Big Ten goes.

I've been as critical as anyone of Diebler, but I actually thought he played fairly well tonight. Could he have done more? Sure. But everyone can say that when your team loses. He actually made some hustle plays that I haven't seen often this year.

Turner was an absolute stud, and I'm not bashing him at all, but I wish he was more aggressive when they cut the lead (maybe even tied it) and then he fired up two 3's without really attacking. But that's being nit-picky on someone who did everything for this team.

Buford didn't show up until the 2nd half, so that hurt.

And Johnson ate up Lauderdale and the OSU defense which really hurt as well.

Overall, OSU lost a close one to a top 4 team after playing as bad as possible in the 1st half. I'm not too concerned with this loss, but they have to rebound quickly and try to stay in contention for the Big 10 with a win against Michigan State.

And anyone who thinks OSU gets a better shot at the end of the game after a timeout just doesn't know basketball. Diebler got a great look, and he doesn't get that look if Purdue had the chance to setup their defense and discuss how they were going to defend the final play.

I agree with you about Turner, too. Like Jim Jack said, Turner was settling for the long J instead of staying in attack mode. And obviously, Turner is a lot better at attacking than shooting from the perimeter.

I still can't believe Lauderdale played that terrible on D tonight. He let Johnson eat him alive and his help side D was non-existent. Not to mention the one time when he backed off his man and let him drain a wide open 3 as a result of a communication breakdown. A very forgettable experience for Dallas tonight.
