I guess Peyton Manning is no Ben Roethlisberger

The Steelers had an unfortunate year with a bunch of close losses.

Even how good Peyton played this year, there were 4-5 games that the defense made plays at the end to preserve the win.

The Steelers were in those same situations but didn't come up with the plays.

If Ben and the offense play like they did this year and the defense plays even a little better, the Steelers could win two or three more Super Bowls.

Wes

What I mean is Elway is the best QB of that kind. Somebody that can get outside of the pocket and make plays with his arm scrambling. Ben plays in the same style. He doesn't have Elway's elite arm but he has a good arm. Elway is better than Roethlisberger but there just aren't a lot of QBs like that who can beat you in different ways, along with just the desire and never quit attitude. Same style. Steve Young is in there. Maybe Tarkentin along time ago.

Exactly, Ben is nothing without the defense. And the defense is nothing without Polamalu. If Ben was better than Peyton, why didn't he lead the team to the playoffs even without a good D?

He was sacked 50 times this season. Tied for most in the league with Aaron Rodgers. Surely youd hope for improvement.

Big Ben is always going to get sacked a lot, because he holds on to the ball too long. But he does make up for it with making big plays by lengthening the plays.

And how the hell did the Colts get to the Super Bowl this year?

What in the world are you talking about? Big Ben carried the Steelers on his back this year and set Steeler passing records in the process. As for the defense, no one in the league had an out right dominating defense this year and to try and compare this years defense to last year's Steeler defense isn't fair, last year's bunch was a record breaking/legendary unit.

Football is truely a game of inches and Pittsburgh came up short by literally inches.

And what's your post have to do with the Steeler's run to Super Bowl XL? I was responding to what was said bout how the Steeler defense carried Ben that year in the playoffs, which is not entirely true at all. Try reading the thread before posting.

Everyone says how good of an organization the Colts are at drafting. Bill Polian is a genius. Then when the Colts fail in the playoffs, everyone else sucks and Manning had to do it all alone.

They had so many games this year that came down to the defense making the stop or getting lucky because a team missed a field goal.

And no one else in the league had any luck that helped them get wins.

No shit wise ass! You need some breaks to win a title and in some cases just to make the playoffs. That's the pont I was trying to make which obviously flew right over your head.:dodgy:

He is the better playoff QB, and well, that's what really matters.

I'm just saying if you look at the two seasons. Indy had a bunch of close games and could've been anywhere from like 10-6 to 15-1 depending on a few plays.

The Steelers were kind of the same way. A few plays and 9-7 may have been 12-4 and all of a sudden Ben's stats and season overall is a great season for a QB, up there with the best.

Yeah, and cut the guy some slack for having nerves on his way to becoming the youngest QB to ever win a SB.

Manning apparently said in the Pro Bowl one year that he wish he had Ben's natural abilities.

People also forget in this discussion that Ben will only be 28 entering his 7th season. If you go back and look at Brees or Manning, you will see that they weren't nearly as good at that point in their career as they are now, and arguably no better than Ben at this point (besides the fact that they threw more, but mostly the stats are similar).

Even as a Steeler fan I can admit that Manning is a better pure QB. That being said.....I'm content with the 2 Lombardi's. Manning's legacy is intact. Ben has played a big part in Pittsburgh's two World Championships. I'm happy.

Ben has continued to get better and next year could really be that big final leap to being truly elite. Then if they ever get a decent OL in front of him he could start putting up some sick numbers (already is, but more consistently)...And then people might really appreciate how good he's been doing more with less. You have to look deeper than the fantasy stats.

I'm willing to bet that alot of those sacks came from Ben holding on to the ball too long looking to make a play down the field. It's his only flaw IMO but it comes with his style of play, you have to be willing to take the good with the bad when it comes to Ben. I'm sure when he starts feeling those hits linger alot more here down the road, he will start throwing the ball away more or at least take off and run.

I dont know about that. I think he has one of the best receiving corps in the league with Miller, Holmes, Ward, and Wallace.

Wow, really guys? This is beyond retarded. What is up with fans drastically over-valuing mediocre-to-good players on their teams? I guarantee if the Steelers GM Colbert called up the Colts GM Polian and offered Big Ben straight up for Peyton Manning, Polian would laugh Colbert off of the phone. That tells me everything I need to know about who is the better player between the two. You pair the defenses that the Steelers have had over the past few years with Peyton Manning (either in the Colts offense or Steelers offense) and we'd probably be talking about the Steelers winning like their 5th championship in a row.

Big Ben went 9 for 21 against the Seahawks with two picks (much worse than Manning in this game) and the Steelers still won by 11...and hes getting all the credit for that win because "he's a winner"? Seriously?

I agree thats his biggest flaw. Which is why I call him average because he hardly ever makes the smart play.

Anybody that calls Ben an average qb doesn't know football. He's easily in the top 5 in the league.
