No hate for the kid....just frustrated by his game and don't think he is as good a division 1 basketball player as some do.

I just think he's soft, and I hate that. I don't get on PJ Hill or Kyle Madsen and I think those two are as bad of Ohio State scholarhips players as we've ever seen. But they give their all even if they do look bad doing it.

As for Diebler, although many would disagree, I don't think he plays hard. And if he gets elbowed in the throat by someone, he's not going to respond by doing it back or driving into their chest to get a foul call.

He's going to help them up the next time they fall.

I don't think anyone hates Diebler, the question was what are your thoughts on him as a basketball player and I think the consensus is that he is an average player. That's not hate it's the facts.

Soft?? You do know how many broken noses from planned forearm shivers he's played with, that had blood soaked cotton swabs in both nostrils with the blood still running out of his nose.

No one thinks Diebler will play in the NBA. No one thinks Diebler will ever be 1st team All Big Ten. No one thinks Diebler is "elite". No one thinks Diebler is more than an average defender. Everyone would like to see Diebler put the ball on floor and take a couple more short jumpers per game.

The estimated 1200 or so points someone projected Diebler to score in his career included his poor Freshman season. The rest of this season and next year will pull that average up considerably, getting him close to 1500 points for his career. Where does that put him on the list of Ohio State career scorers?

There are 11 Big Ten teams, there are 55 Big Ten starters.

As a Sophomore Diebler was 21st in scoring in the Big Ten at 11.2/PPG. He made .416% of his 3-pointers, 3rd best of the players with at least 100 attempts. He was 10th in FT percentage.

Thus far as a Junior, Diebler is 16th in the Big Ten in scoring at 13.6/PPG. He is 5th in FT percentage. He has made .451% of his 3 pointers, 3rd in the Big Ten. He has made 55 3-pointers so far this year, 2nd in the COUNTRY in D1.

Diebler will average double figures in scoring, over 11/PPG, for 3 years in his career at Ohio State. How many Ohio State players have done that?

I would hope his Senior year his defense will improve some more and he will put the ball on the floor a little more.

A few say Diebler shouldn't be playing D1 ball. Many say Diebler should be playing in the MAC. In reality Diebler is better than an average player. He is an ABOVE average Big Ten player. And that doesn't bother him one bit. After shooting and scoring as much as he did in high school. Being THE most important player on a team that won a State Title one year and was Runner-Up another year( which wouldn't have happened in another system), it should be worth something that he doesn't care at all how many shots he gets or how many points he scores as long as his TEAM WINS.

Diebler is a "role player"? That's not an insult, that's a complement. One of THE most important factors in the success of a basketball TEAM is if EVERY player on the TEAM knows what his "role" is and doesn't try to do something that is out of the realm of his "role".

Thank you Jon Diebler.

Big Gain - Very nice post. I would agree with a lot of what you stated. I would agree that Jon is a role player and is a great team player - does what he's asked to do and does so without much emotion or apparent effort. He's one of the nicest young men to play at and for OSU. He's well-liked and respected by his teammates and coaches - both current and past.

The issue has been the pedestal that he was put on - on top of the mountain you might say. There was no where to go but down. His supporters over the years have been far from objective and many times his detractors have been the same. He's a winner and will go down as a winner with many supporters and admirers regardless of the eventual outcome.

When its all said and done he will have had a successful collegiate career - which means to me that he contributed, played, was at times a role player and a team player who did his best to help his team be successful. To me, this is a successful collegiate athlete regardless of the sport.

There's no "hate" here, but let's all just relax and be logical when we discuss the young men who "don" (no pun intended) the uniforms of our alma maters.

What? Are you trying to tell that he's played injured before? I don't care about that.

No one can defend the fact that he's soft.

I haven't seen anyone defending Diebler say he was anywhere close to being an "elite" D-1 player. That's a bogus defense for some of the vitriol that has been thrown his way.

For no good reason that I can see, Diebler has been the subject of ridiculous (and usually wrong) statements during his time at OSU -- even though he's been the consummate team player and improved each year he's been there.

I'm telling you Diebler is a hard nosed warrior of a basketball player.

You have too much distaste for the young man. Of course you "don't care" .....that he's had his nose BROKEN 3 times during games and never missed more than the time it takes to shove a couple blood soaked cotton swaps up both nostrils. After which players still went for his face when fouling, instead of letting him make another layup. He never complained, just got up off the floor, had new cotton swabs put in his nose and made the foul shots.

Big Gain = Jon Dieibler haha. No but for real, 2nd in the country? Hell if i took (and missed most like Diebler) I'd probably be 2nd in the country too. Don't get me wrong. I like Diebler and I'll admit that I was one who made him out to be Michael Jordan. He has underachieved I think. Yeah he scores 13/game and sometimes even in the 20s but look at the game's stat sheet. He shoots 20 shots a night. He's a good player when he's on but if he's off, turn the channel.

That comes with the territory though and I assume even Jon realizes this. When you have the type of high school career that Jon had and then go and play for one of the better schools in the state you were Mr. Basketball in this is what happens.

LOL this post is to funny. Diebler has shot over 40% in both his soph and jr years. And well he has shot over 10 shots or more in 8 out of 17 games and thats 2s and 3s. Shot over 10 3s in 4 games in which 3 of those he shot it pretty well other than one 3 for 10 game(UNC game) other 3 he was 5-11 twice and 6-12. He hasnt shot more than 15 shots in a game this year. So lets see how much was correct in your post ummmmm nothing. So there is your stat sheet.

Do you mean,[ I'm curious, what did I lie about?]. What you LIED about is the number of shots you said Diebler takes. Your EXACT ignorant words, "He(Diebler) shoots 20 shots a night." Even including day games Diebler only averages NINE shots per GAME.
BTW, Turner, Buford and Lighty all average more shots per game than Diebler.
Why dont u learn how to read who wrote what. I didnt write he put up 20 shots a game ULBuckeye10 did. I was defending that he didnt that he has only shot more than 10 times in 8/17 games and hasnt shot more than 15 times, I bolded the words cuz that is what i was commenting on, so settle ur internet tough guy business down. Ill be waiting for an apology.

ULbuckeye makes a complete fool of himself.

Diebler averages NINE shots per game, not 20. Of course Turner take more shots than Diebler, but Burford and Lighty take more shot than Diebler as well.

Jon Diebler is quality high major D1 player who gets it done. He's a better shooter and defender than Buford, who had people talking about the NBA for him. Diebler is not soft and is not in over his head at the highlevel of Big 10 play. Great young man who is a great player! Period.

He's a better shooter and defender than Buford,
Diebler is a better shooter than Buford, but he can't create his own shots. Diebler wins a game of H-O-R-S-E , but Buford is the better offensive player in a game situation.

Neither player is a good defender, so one being better than the other is a comparison of two bad defenders, which doesn't matter much.

After watching the Wisconsin game it's obvious Diebler is much better defender than Buford.

Not only that, but the past couple games Diebler has made a concerted effort to dribble-drive and penetrate defenses -- something sorely lacking from his game until this point.

It was effective, too, resulting in some foul shots against Wisconsin, and a 3 point play on another drive. He also drove inside late in the game when Wisconsin was trying to rally and dished to Turner, who took the ball inside and flushed it.

This was a key part of the game and just one example of some of the intangibles that Diebler brings. The kind of stuff people simply don't pay attention to, for the most part, but coaches do and they love it.
