Just recently the house rejected efforts to ban illegal immigrants from enlisting in the military.

...not a lot of gun control efforts there. We are apparently willing as a nation to let federal law breakers have assault rifles but restrict* citizens from having them.

That's been the excuse for a while.

It may not be far off the mark, though. Read where 200k guns are lost or stolen every year - you're not going to sell those in a pawn shop.

Yep. Heard a lot about that when I used to live out in Indiana. The argument was that Chicago's ban on guns is only ineffective because people can just get the guns outside Chicago and bring them in.

I would submit that whether or not that is the actual avenue taken by gun owners in Chicago, it wouldn't have to be. See: heroin

An AR-15 fires the same round and the same speed (semi automatic) as many basic hunting rifles. It gets the moniker as an "assault rifle" because of how it looks instead of reality. It is made to LOOK like an Army issue weapon when it isn't even close to what they actually use.

Also, getting or making the weapon full auto makes it very difficult to fire accurately unless you have it on a bipod and it goes through a magazine very, very quickly. You have very little control over an assault rifle if you fire in full auto.

I zipped through probably 60 or so rounds in a few magazines last weekend in full auto mode and yeah, you aint hitting much with it!
