Well, since he asked me...I'll give it a shot.
People are just upset that their situations aren't improving. Yet they don't realize that they are standing in the way of their own progress. You get a bunch of people like that together in one area, and people start looking at the outside for blame. Mix that with high profile cases like Trayvon, Ferguson, Samir Rice, and LaQuan McDonald, and you've got a recipe for disaster. BLM capitalized on that and formed a social movement aimed at shedding light on what they feel are injustices against people of color. It's not a violent group, but they damn sure are angry.
Now, I'm not the type of person who thinks that there's this over-arching evil preventing me from getting ahead. The whole "The man trying to get me down" mentality was never allowed in my family. My parents didn't raise me to believe that someone else was in control of my future. If I failed in life, it was because of me. If I succeeded, it would be because of me. However, there are people who don't believe in that. There are people who believe that the white collective is purposely trying to undercut any progress we (as black people) make as a community or race or whatever. That's how we came to this term white oppression.
The organizations that I align myself with believe in the same principles that my parents believed in. You have to want better for yourself in order for you to actually become better. You can't let the influences of your poor surroundings stop you from achieving whatever goals you've set for yourself.
I don't outright support the BLM movement. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel anger when Rice's shooter wasn't indicted. I'm angry at the leadership of my newly adopted home city for allegedly covering up the McDonald case. What I do believe is that we will see less protests, and more political activism and awareness. The movement is shifting from being a bunch of angry people with signs to a group whose purpose is to educate the uninformed, and bring new ideas on how to improve our communities.
