I had another instance where I went to a wedding for two OSU alums, during the Texas game when we beat McCoy. Fortunately the event space was above a nice sports bar, so people were going back and forth. I kinda felt bad for the bride, but she expected it.
More to life than a fail OSU Alumni wedding too.

Not really. Hopefully, it's the one day you're going to get married in the history of ever. You should pick the date you really want, if possible. Plus, there are other factors. Cost, venue availability, etc. Summer is the most popular time to get married, and venues fill up quickly. It's also more expensive during those months.

Getting married in December in the north sounds terrible regardless. Why the heck do you want to wear a wedding gown (as a female) and be bundled up or freezing? And yea, weddings during college football season you have to know people will be uninterested in your reception if they can get to a tv. I don't mind weddings around a holiday because you can use vacation if traveling, but the 1 NYE wedding we went to was kinda lame. Being at a reception from 7-1am is a long time, even if it is your friends.

Yeah....SonHits is getting married during the Rutgers game this year......yeah, I said to him "Really?, That's the Rutgers' game!" Now he's a big OSU fan like I am, but it was the only time they could get the reception hall they wanted( in Columbus) within a reasonable time frame. (I wonder why LOL). He goes, " It's only Rutgers!" Grrrr, now I'm pissed....I went to undergrad out east, and Rutgers was always one of our big games. I told him he owes me one....and I'm going to keep that in my back pocket ;)

My GF back when we first started dating had a family wedding during football season. It was her cousin. It was on a Friday. The Friday before my last college football game. Obviously, Friday's had team meetings and what not before games. She didn't understand why I couldn't make it.

Difference between a sports person and not a sports person.

You could, although giving up one of 12 of nearly anything doesn't seem like a massive sacrifice to me. At least when it would come to a close friend.

Hopefully your employer knows this as well. You get way more holidays, hell prob at least 75 Christmases. I don't see the big deal giving up 7 of your Christmas's with your family for your career.

I am with go chiefs. The majority of my friends are big into sports, especially football. I would want them to show up to my wedding and enjoy it. Part of the reason I wouldn't have a wedding during football season (other than my own self reasons), is because I wouldn't want to put my friends in that situation.

It's obviously not a question when you're on the team lol. I'm a huge sports fan but I don't think there is a regular season game in any sport that I would cry about missing for a friend's wedding. Just don't schedule it for the rivalry game or during the playoffs.

This has happened at every wedding I've been to during football season, without fail...we went to my nephew's wedding in North Carolina a few years back when OSU played N'Western at night, and over a quarter of the guests were in the bar area of the country club we were at watching the game. This is what college football fans do. Period.

Was at a wedding during the Ohio State - USC game. Everyone was watching. Father of the Bride went behind bar and unplugged the TV. Crazy thing happened next, people went to the dance floor and had an awesome time! Nobody needs to watch every game.

Was just thinking of this thread this morning. My buddy texted us to let us know that he and his girl set a date for their wedding. First thing I did was check to see who Notre Dame was playing that day. It's Michigan State. I texted back that I'm happy for them and that I hope there's a TV at the reception.

I have to since I'm in the wedding. But I do have the NBC Sports Live Extra app on my phone. So if there is no TV, the game will be streaming on my phone the whole time.

We went to the wedding of a young couple a year ago in December, the bride had planned a wedding date of 12-13-14, "so he won't forget what day his anniversary is".

I told her, "Don't worry, kid - he'll forget at least once in his lifetime."

My wife and I got engaged in a July, and we planned for a September wedding. Since my father was an OSU redcoat at the time, we made sure the Buckeyes were playing on the road that day, and I was patting myself on the back for that stroke of genius. It wasn't until later that my wife and I also became redcoats, and I finally considered the Buckeyes would be at home on our anniversary eventually ......
