Scouting in the 50's and 60's isn't a fair comparison to scouting today. The talent is everywhere now. I don't think you set your primary focus on a certain region. You look at all the talent you are interested in. PERIOD. Teams are equipped with tons of scouts and coaches that they can cover everywhere.

Yeah, the Browns aren't college football, there is no point in scouting 'regions'. They have pro scouts scouting every area. Focusing on just ohio would be a huge failure...

Even if we just scouted within the Big Ten area, we wouldn't find any stellar players in this draft.

These are Big 10 region prospects that are drafted in the first 3 rounds of the WalterFootball Mock. Not a whole lot of talent there if you ask me. I'd rather look in the Oklahoma/Texas area.

Now that Rob Sims & Chris Gocong have signed their tenders, I could see the Browns moving on one if not both of them if their teams' have lowered their asking price.

That's what I figured but I was informing the others that aren't using Twitter.

It seems pretty obvious that the AFC North team is the Browns. I haven't heard of any other AFC North team pursuing a trade

Very possible it changes the direction they go. Hell, with the Shaun Rogers incident, I'd almost think any position could be in play.

I was thinking about this yesterday after hearing the news but I think the price to move up and get McCoy or Suh is way too high for us without butchering the rest of our draft.

I believe if Brown comes in, that will insure us that Haden will not be the pick. If Berry is available at #7, which I highly doubt he will be, there is no doubt in my mind that will be Cleveland's pick. With Berry and Brown in the secondary, it immediately makes the Cleveland's secondary above average. I think you can fill Rogers role in the 2nd/3rd rounds or even in Free Agency or another trade. I still think that our 2nd round pick is either going to get traded to move us up into the late 1st round to get Colt McCoy. If they can't get McCoy, I can see them pulling the trigger on Tebow. Tebow is either going to make Heckert and Big Mike look like geniuses or retards. I just don't think you pass on Tebow if you have the chance in the 2nd round.

Have to agree...Rogers just threw our draft in a way that was not expected. And I also agree that if Brown comes, Haydon doesn't. I don't believe Berry will be there at 7. But if there is any way to move to get him, they should.

Rogers is best suited to play in the 4-3. He takes too many chances to be a nose tackle. He will make a great play now and then. But they don't outnumber the bad plays. Now we are fucked. Nobody will want him, if he is allowed to play this year.

That's the issue where he kind of screwed us. I was pretty confident that he would be part of a draft day trade to move up or get a player they liked but that can all be thrown out the window now.

Dude is a 31 year old 350+ lb D-Lineman coming off a leg injury. I don't see very many more productive years in his career. Plus, factor in the alleged "motivational issues" and it's time to move on. Rubin is a better true NT anyhow.

I heard that the Brown/Gocong to the Browns deal likely would have already been done if Shaun Rogers hadn't gone all "Dirty Harry" and sidetracked it. Rogers wasn't part of the deal but his issue took focus off it.

Did I say you stop scouting elsewhere?

No.

I meant you protect your own backyard -- which historically has produced some pretty damn fine football players.

Even in the past few years, teams have found an Antonio Gates and a Pierre Garcon, just to name two. Then you have Joshua Cribbs. That's three pro bowl or near pro bowl level players who were within spitting distance of the Browns.

There have been a few others in recent years that ended up going to other teams, but the names escape me now.

Just got a text from ESPN. Browns get gocong and brown for alex hall, 4th and 5th rounders.

I like this move. Seems like we may have got a good deal on this.

Wow, that's a damn steal, if you ask me.

Easy win for the Browns with this trade.

I haven't liked some of their moves but this is a no brainer.

Brown is a starting cornerback that can come in and help the defense a lot next year.

Gocong is versatile and at the very least could be a spot starter.

It's unlikely that those two picks in the 4th and 5th rounds bring in two starting players. It would take a lot to even draft players like Brown and Gocong with those picks.

I like having a lot of picks but I think it's a mistake to get carried away with that because history shows that only a few times in the history of the NFL has a team had a thorough and deep draft class where they hit on multiple picks. It's better to keep some but then also use some to get better value or in this case proven players.
