They are white so life should be a piece of cake. They just call up their local country club and they'll get 6 figure jobs no problem. That's what MSNBC tells me at least. The reality is black people are the most successful race but you have white people who hold them back by saying mean things about them behind their back but actually hire them and let them into their organizations. It doesn't make a lot of sense but MSNBC is a legit news source.

Those who were expelled should sue the school and/or otherwise be compensated. A college is not an enclave where the 1st amendment is not allowed to exist; you are free to say whatever you wish (no matter how distasteful it might be). If they were in such a position where they had some type of authority and engaged in conduct that was discriminatory, then there might be some merit in their dismissal, but absent that they could easily go against the school and win.

Otherwise, any black students there who are playing and repeating rap lyrics which condone raping women and shooting police, should also be expelled, as that would easily constitute the creation of a hostile, racist environment.

Thanks for the link. I think it did a pretty good job of outlining some hypocrisy in this situation.

What these college kids chanted/sang is reprehensible and something that will follow them for a long time. However, I am not so sure about kicking them out of school, not only because of possible first amendment rights, but because college is a place to educate and help people grow. I'm sure OU has classes in it's humanities departments that these kids could learn a lot from and potentially grow as people.

If a football player can only be suspended from the team while staying in school for doing the level of physical violence towards a woman described in that article, then surely these boys can receive some of the same leniency.

The internet is the modern day lynch mob where everyone is on their high horse and wanting to see other peoples lives ruined.

Young people need more forgiveness and opportunities to interact and grow, not harsh judgment, if we are going to improve race relations in our society

While I agree with this in general, the 1st amendment doesn't protect you from being kicked out of a college.

If OU were a private college I would agree, but OU is a public institution. But I only briefly brought up the 1st A issues as I don't know how it would play out. After a quick google search, here is an article on the subject from a Tulsa news outlet.

http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/state/can-ou-president-david-boren-discipline-sae-fraternity-members-experts/article_9adc448d-7dc3-5a23-907c-c0d9a64bfeb0.html

I'm sure you can find people on both sides of the argument elsewhere as well. But it is certainly an issue in this situation.

I'm about 100% sure a lawyer is already contacting the families of the kids that were released and I think they have a case simply because OU is a public institution. It's an interesting case.

Interesting. I wonder if this black kid who punched a white woman while issuing gay slurs participated in the football team's protest march.

It's like the old playground song "sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me." That's been flipped on its head in this day in age.

Boren said the following: "It was unbelievable that this could have possibly occurred with UO students. Sooners are not racists. They're not bigots. They are people who respect each other and care about each other."

I'd bet a good amount of money the President of the University knew the frat had racist tendencies and is only doing something because it's not a public issue.

"He made a split-second and wrong decision, and he knows that," running backs Coach Cale Gundy said. "He is a super, super kid. And I use the term 'kid' because he still is like a kid. He's still very young."

Joe Mixon hit a white girl, that should be a hate crime right? Guaranteed if Mixon were white and the girl was black there would've been a march led by Rev. Al.

Bullshit! If he wasn't an athlete he would be kicked out of school and incarcerated. Athletes are protected no matter what race they are.

This seems like a well-balanced piece. Says that the 1A claim is credible, but ultimately should not succeed.

As for advocating lynching, rape or murder of cops, out with them. Listening to it, they did not expel everyone on that bus did they or even repeating them.

IMO, If they were chanting about any other race or religion they wouldn't have been shut down or expelled.
