Totally agree. Every run is such a grind anymore it feels like that we don't have the luxury of throwing away winnable games.

Bigger picture I think this team thinks it's going to flip the switch like last year and just make the slow start a distant memory like it was a year ago.

The sloppy defense all season tells me there is a lack of discipline and urgency with this club that they aren't paying attention to the details.

A blown save is survivable, but it is the totality of everything that is going to do them in. You can't not hit or play defense and expect to be in the race.

It's early, but we're already 7.5 games out of first and only the Astros have a worse record in the AL. At the 20% mark that is troubling, particularly since this team is not constructed to be playing out of a big hole.

There is no panic though at east 9th and Carnegie, because they haven't sent Baghdad Bobbie Dibiasio out to make the rounds yet to tell us that there is nothing to see and everything is going fine. When he pops his head out, then you will know the Dolan's realize this team is in the shitter.

Finally, for the love of God do we need a thumper on this team in the middle of the order. I feel like Hitsrus and others have talked about the right handed power bat since the site started (and before on the puddle) and we continue to get nothing. Seeing the impact Abreu has had on the Sox only makes it that much clearer to me that with a bopper like that in the middle of the line-up everyone benefits just by his presence.

They might have to consider making moves depending on how the next 2-3 weeks go. They can't let this season get away from them, and doing nothing is basically an admission that the window is closed and we are heading into some lean times going forward.

The core group they have signed are nice complementary players, but they aren't going to win anything without the scouting staff starting to really hit in the draft to provide us with the top flight talent we won't sign in free agency.

The front office was counting on Swisher, Bourn, and Cabrera to have more "normal" seasons than they did last year where their productions #'s were down from career averages....BUT that does not seem to be the case so far this season. Bourn has been a non-factor, and in some respects he may have hurt the team forcing them to send down a hot hitting Nyger Morgan at just the wrong time. Swish has scuffled, and Druby looks lost. Murphy and Cabrera have been a pleasant surpris...but Santana has slumped. No doubt the prerssure would be off these guys if you had a legitimate bopper in the middle of that lineup.

I don't care if he hit right or left, we need a 35-40 HR guy in the middle of the lineup. That game last night was tailor made for an infield single or blooper and then a two run homer. Would have gotten it done last night.

Here is an issue. They have less than two months to really turn it on. If they are hovering 6 or 7 games below .500 when the calendar is hitting July, they will be hard pressed to justify NOT trading Masterson. Especially if the Tigers have opened up a 13-15 game lead. It is too early to totally panic but April is over and May is about 1/4 over. Before we know it will be June. It is time to starting showing some signs of life consistently at the plate.

At this time last year, Perez had an ERA of under 1. He sure kept that up, didn't he?

^^^To be frank I don't care if Chris Perez leads the majors in saves...it was painfully obvious that his time in Cleveland was done. Smith, on the other hand was a solid back end of the bullpen guy for several years and they could have made more of an effort to keep him.

I wanted to keep Smith and move Allen to the Closer role. I wasnt terribly upset with the Axford signing though.

BTW, you are right about Gomes hurting this team defensively. He's got Chuck Knoblach throwing disease for some reason.

I didn't mind the Axford signing either....considering we had already lost Smith. BTW I'm not totally down on Axford, provided he gets back to the stuff that has net him 9 saves already.

I'm more concened about the offensive production....you just can't keep wasting pitching gems like the last two games.

I love the way Tomlin pitches. I am throwing strikes. Here is it...put it in play. As long as the guys behind cooperate and catch it for him, he will do fine.

The starting pitching has been unbelievable.

Masterson- into the 8th...part of a shutout.
Kluber- into the 7th?...gave up 1 solo homer. Consecutive strikeout record.
McAllister- 7 innings. No runs.
Tomlin- into the 7th. One solo homer allowed.

Best case is 2-2 on these starts, which is a shame. But still, pitching like this will win a lot of ballgames, even with a poor offense.

Great inning by Atchison in the 8th. Gets two strikeouts and 2 potential double play balls that couldn't be turned, trying to erase the leadoff man he struck out but reached when Games spiked the throw to 1st.

Who is coming out for the 9th, assuming the Tribe don't add any on? Allen can't be available. He has pitched 3 of 4 and was up and down twice in the other. Axford may not be available. I would assume it would be Shaw since he was throwing in the 8th.

So I was wondering what was up with the fucking bum in the first base box seats that the camera shows on left handed batters after the first pitch? (How is that for a sentence? Haha)

I think that Atcheson looks like he is 50 years old.

John Franco pitched until he was 72 (give or take). As long as Atchison gets outs, he is all good in my book.
