I wear an Academic All-District/All-Ohio patch on mine and I get some shit for it from my friends. I also have my Captain patch, All-League patch, and conference champs patch. I decided to get the Academic All-District/All-State patch because it was the thing my father was most proud of me for. Although I'll continue to take shit for it, I'll still wear it with pride. So for me, if schools give out letters for choir/band and the student is proud enough to put it on their jacket, then I don't see an issue with it. I do think schools need to re-evaluate their letter system for activities such as band and choir.

I have read these posts and one question comes to mind. Why do some past and/or present athletes think they are so much better than other students that a reward system should be reserved for them exclusively? The jacket can be purchased by anyone who walks into the appropriate store and pays for it, not cheap by the way. Some have stated that band members cannot be benched, this is false. I have seen band members benched for a half time show because they did not know the show well enough. Each activity has their own requirements for earning the letter, and most letters are distinctly different for each activity.

My daughters have letters in band, academics and softball. Band required the most time and work by far. Academics has many requirements including community service. Softball was awarded for playing a game that they love and continue to play even after graduation.
