What is your spicy kraut? Spices or sauce/peppers?

What kind of meat?

We used pork spare ribs. The kraut we made and used jalapenos for the spicy on some and used habenero(sp) on a few. I like my kraut right out of the jar but the family likes to cook the spare ribs in the kraut.

Use fresh casing sausage cut into 2" pieces.

Potatoes...peeled and cubed.

Vlasic old fashioned sauerkraut.

Put in crock pot on high for 5-6 hrs.

Good stuff.

Did smoked sausage and kraut last night. Today I'll use the leftover kraut on hotdogs.

Threw some pork chops and kraut in the crock pot with some apples and onions on top. Cooking for 6 hours. Will probably serve over mashed potatoes. I have never really done the pork/kraut thing, but my gf's family did so I made it for her, we shall see. Neither of us like kraut that much, which is why I added some apples.

Why are most family traditions stupid? wtf does the silver dollar have to do with it? Better yet...wtf does kraut and pork have to do with luck?

Mom and Dad made it, straight up, in an old cast iron roaster, some season on the pork that is all. You can season the kraut once its done. I like mine over mashed potatoes. (and straight up of course)

Mom makes it from scratch each year, but always has the "fake" store bought stuff on hand just in case something didnt quite go right! SHe only had to use it once time in like 30 years and that was when the cats knocked over the glass jars in the garage that it was in.

NYD is my favorite eating holiday. Saurkraut and sausage, bar b q spare ribs, mashed taters.......
