A result of too many dad's wanting to "coach" their "superstar-son" to "super-stardom" rather than teaching the fundamentals at that age. Many children change as they get older, some lose weight, some gain weight, for some their skills sharpen while some diminish. Some are forced by their fathers to "man up" and play football even though they don't want to while some are made out to be "stars" that they aren't. Many men miss these things because all they know is that "they love football" and there can be nothing else without it!
I believe that many of these various youth football, basketball, etc., leagues, camps and AAU only serve to provide some financial gain to those parents who "run" them and again, attempt to "feature" their child and/or their friends children. I think they miss the part where for some youth, they tend to get burnt-out and they lose interest in sports, especially football and basketball.
