Are the Texas people so delusional that they believe their job is anything but a lateral move from tOSU, and less than that for someone who grew up in Ohio?

No they won't. No coach is worth $10M a year and $6M a year is pushing it already.vball10set;1551928 wrote:Yes.

Texas is a great job. But really the only thing they can offer over Ohio state is that longhorn network and all that means is more money to the football program, which Ohio state isn't struggling for. I guess more 5* recruits in their backyard as well, but OSU has an outreach to the entire country so that's also not a huge ploy for them.
Urban isn't going anywhere.

It's a lateral move program wise, if not a step down, but if you start throwing around 10 million a year, it's no longer a lateral move.queencitybuckeye;1551930 wrote:Are the Texas people so delusional that they believe their job is anything but a lateral move from tOSU, and less than that for someone who grew up in Ohio?

Meyer is NOT going anywhere. Saban, wouldn't surprise me. He is a builder of programs. Once he gets them to where he wants them, he seems to like another challenge.
Bama people are freaking out right now. An contract extension has been on his desk since last week. And he has yet to address it/sign it. Personally, I don't think he will leave Bama. But again, I wouldn't be surprised.

Depends on one's motivation. The difference between Urban's current compensation and 10 large likely has zero effect on lifestyle. It would be purely a matter of ego. Is it important to him to be the highest paid coach in the country? I have no idea.se-alum;1551954 wrote:It's a lateral move program wise, if not a step down, but if you start throwing around 10 million a year, it's no longer a lateral move.

We'll see, and I'll wager it's closer to $10M than $6M (if it's Saban)sleeper;1551937 wrote:No they won't. No coach is worth $10M a year and $6M a year is pushing it already.

10 million a year would put Urban in play. Sorry, it just would. I don't want him to leave, but come on. If any of us were in his shoes...see ya Ohio. As far as programs go, Ohio State to Texas is pretty much a lateral move. Ohio State is one of the VERY few schools that is in that top tier. Alabama is not. Texas is a considerable step up from Alabama. The endowment at Texas is LITERALLY 10 times higher than Alabama, just for starters.

I'd agree with that. I think anyone who is remotely impartial knows Tomlin came into a great situation in Pittsburgh and had a lot of success due to that. He's now in line for what likely will be some degree of a rebuilding mode and a potentially ugly one, as they have some big-name stars who still are capable of playing well...but the team doesn't have the overall skill at key areas or depth to be what they had been. His star could drop a good bit going through that, so I could see him looking at a big-time college job.Iliketurtles;1551916 wrote:I could see Tomlin but not Harbaugh. I think it will be Saban as well though.
I've always felt Texans are pretty delusional overall as far as self-superiority goes, so I definitely could see them thinking that Urban (or anyone) should be drooling over the chance to leave any job to have the unbelievable honor of being a Longhorn.queencitybuckeye;1551930 wrote:Are the Texas people so delusional that they believe their job is anything but a lateral move from tOSU, and less than that for someone who grew up in Ohio?

If Saban goes there, they get better recruits. Then they compete for titles each year. Texas becomes relevant again and they make millions upon millions. 10 million is nothing especially when their channel will get more viewers. Plus they will make BCS games which will bring in more money.

There is no lifestyle difference between 4.5 mil and 10 mil. I Dont think he uproots his wife and kid for the moneyMe?;1551976 wrote:10 million a year would put Urban in play. Sorry, it just would. Of course it would put him in play, but imo, he ain't going anywhere. Past health issues, back in the state he grew up in, dream coaching job, happy family, etc...and he's not doing so bad with the salary/incentives he has now.Me?;1551976 wrote:10 million a year would put Urban in play. Tomlin ain't going anywhere. I don't see Harbaugh either. I think this is very much like the "Saban negotiating with Alabama" news. His camp leaks that to provoke Texas to come up with it's max offer. Texas floats some other names out there to make it seem like there is competition. I don't think any of these names are ACTUALLY relevant. It's just Saban.

That's an absurd notion. It's quite literally the same thing as saying "There is no lifestyle difference between $30,000 a year and $65,000"...yes, there is.LJ;1551982 wrote:There is no lifestyle difference between 4.5 mil and 10 mil. I Dont think he uproots his wife and kid for the money

There is definitely a lifestyle change when an extra 5.5 million a year is in play. He has about 16 million left on his contract over the next 4 years(not including bonuses), so if he got the Texas gig at 10 million, he would make about 24 million more over those 4 years. Let's not act like that doesn't make a difference.

Regardless of that, there is an ego difference. When you're an elite in your field, you want paid as an elite and if another guy suddenly is getting more than 2x what you are (or you have the chance to get more than 2x what you are), at the very least, you pay it some thought.LJ;1551982 wrote:There is no lifestyle difference between 4.5 mil and 10 mil. Be specific. What does he want to buy but can't afford? Did he settle for the house he lives in? Is there a car he wants that he can't buy? That's lifestyle. Millions more in the bank at his level isn't.se-alum;1551995 wrote:There is definitely a lifestyle change when an extra 5.5 million a year is in play. Putting aside the absurd lifestyle argument (if you're on SQ's side, suffice to say you're being stupid - rethink), if UT were to offer Meyer $10M, that tOSU wouldn't/couldn't counter with something that would keep him in Columbus?

I know you have to buy a lesser house making 4 million a year, than you do if you make 10 million a year. It's crazy to say an extra 6M/yr wouldn't change anything.queencitybuckeye;1552000 wrote:Be specific. What does he want to buy but can't afford? Did he settle for the house he lives in?
